When in boxing history has any fighter topped Oscar's run 1997-2000?

In three years, Oscar had these four fights:

    - Apr 97 Pernell Whitaker (ATG) 40-1-1 (last "defeat" in 1988, technically undefeated)

    - Feb 99 Ike Quartey 34-0-1 (undefeated)

    - Sep 99 Felix Trinidad (HOF) 35-0 (undefeated)

    - Jun 00 Shane Mosley (HOF) 34-0 (undefeated)

I'm sure there are examples of guys who've had better runs of top opponents in a 3-year span (mostly from the olden days), but there surely can't be many. Ray Leonard is the only one that readily comes to mind (Benitez, Duran, Hearns 1979-81).

I salute the Golden Boy. :happy

Considering I had him losing 3 of those I don't consider it a great run, excellent comp though

Toney's comp from '91-'94 has to take the biscuit in reason times imo - Roy Jones, Michael Nunn, McCallumx2, Reggie Johnson, King Charles Williams and Barkley

I'd say McCallum's competition was of a very high level, between '86 and '92 he packed in Toneyx2, Kalambayx2, Herol Bomber Graham, Michael Watson, Julian Jackson, Steve Collins

that's 1 one thing about Oscar he always fought the best, he might not have won them all, but i respect fighters willing to test themselves and lose a few more than fighters who with undefeated records.

Sorry, maybe I didn't make clear, I meant a run of great opponents rather than wins (thought this would've been clear by my inclusion of Trinidad).

Great run. Also wasn't JCC like 90-1-1 when they fought in 96?

Winky had a decent run couple years back:

    04- Mosley
    05- Tito
    06- Taylor
    07- Hopkins

Oscar has been in there with all the great ones of this era acually and for that he needs ALOT of respect.

    Always worth the money.

Oscar should have Trinidad and the second Mosley fights on his record IMO.

    41 - 4

    rather than 39 - 6

I agree, but Sturm and Quartey drop him back down again to 39-6. :yep

I disagree with Quartey and would argue that with a loss to Sturm, Oscar never gets the Hopkins fight :deal
