Top 19 Nations: With World Boxing Champions & population.
    By Ruderic

I created the list to see the populations of each of these countries and how many world boxing champions they have produced , yet one must take into account the politics, biases, and corruption of the sanctioning bodies, and how champions are and have been created, since the beginning of the sport of boxing. Also, current world titles are now diminished in value due to the creation of gimmicks and bias by sanctioning bodies like the WBC and WBA. The numbers of world champions could be off 2 or 3 depending on current winners, and who is classified a champion of their country or territory etc.

    1. U.S.A – 431 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #3rd in the world’s in population with 312,126,000 million.
    2. Mexico - 114 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #11th in the world’s in population with 112,336,538 million.
    3. Japan - 57 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #10th in the world’s in population with 127,950,000 million.
    4. The U.K. - 50 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #22nd in the world’s in population with 62,435,709 million.
    5. South Korea – 44 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 24th in the world’s in population with 48,988,833 million.
    6. *Puerto Rico – 43 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 126th in the World’s Population with 3,725,789 million.
    7. Thailand – 43 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #19th in the world’s in population with 67,041,000 million.
    8. Philippines – 34 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #12th in the world’s population with 94,013,200 million.
    9. Argentina – 34 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #31st in the world’s population with 40,091,359 million.
    10. Venezuela – 33 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #42nd in the world’s population with 29,351,000 million.
    11. France – 33 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #21st in the world’s population with 65,821,885 million.
    12. Colombia – 31 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #28th in the world’s population with 46,139,000 million.
    13. Italy – 29 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #23rd in the world’s population with 60,626,442 million.
    14. Panama – 27 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 133rd in the world’s population with 3,405,813 million.
    15. South Africa - 22 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 24th in the world’s population with 50,586,757 million.
    16. Ireland - 17 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 119th in the world’s population with 4,581,269 million.
    17. Dominican Republic - 14 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #87th in the world’s population with 9,378,818 million.
    18. Cuba – 12 World Boxing Champions: Ranked # 73rd in the world’s population with 11,241,161 million.
    19. Nicaragua – 10 World Boxing Champions: Ranked #109th in the World’s population with 5,788,000 million people.

    A. If Cuba was not under Communist control how many dominant world champions they would have had? We would never be known…
    B. What many people don’t recognize is that Asia has a total of 4 out of the top 15 countries that have produced world boxing champions. Leading is Japan with 57, South Korea with 44, Thailand with 43, and the Philippines with 36.
    C. The Philippines is the worst with just 36 world champions in its history and the 12th biggest population in the world, a nation that produced greats like Flash Elorde, Pancho Villa, and Ceferino Garcia among other great boxers. Hopefully with the rise of Donaire and Pacquiao Filipino boxing starts an amateur program and builds its boxing to match its population.
    D. In Europe it’s the U.K., France, and Ireland the nations with the most world champions. Although in the future I see Nations like Germany and Eastern European gaining more world boxing champions.
    E. Puerto Rico an estimated 1 World Champion per 90,000 thousand people.
    F. Panama an estimated 1 World Champion per 130,000 thousand people.
    G. Ireland an estimated 1 World Champion per 270,000 thousand people.
    H. Nicaragua and estimated 1 World Champion per 650,000 thousand people.
    I. Dominican Republic an estimated 1 World Champion per 670,000 thousand people.
    J. The U.S.A has an estimated 1 World Champion per 725,000 thousand people.
    K. Venezuela an estimated 1 World Champion per 900,000 thousand people.
    L. Cuba an estimated 1 World Champion per 950,000 thousand people.

    Good old USA on top.

Surprised to see France so high. Those boys aren't known for fighting. At least not when it counts.

    Nice work.

Some interesting numbers suprised to see japan so high.
Some of your stats are a bit off though like how you say Puerto Rico has 1 world champ for every 90,000 people. Gotta be thinking of turnover of people.

I want to say that I don't think population has anything to do with producing world champs. If that was the case China would be #1 and India in 2nd place.

PR is a legendary breeding ground for champions. Must be something they put in the water. Nice to see Ireland make the list to.

Im surprised that Korea has so many world champions, you dont hear of them being given much credit for it.

Even without the 43 Mexican-americans, Mexico still has 151 world champions, 38 more than the TS says.

TS just probably copypasted a very out of date list from somewhere else

If you consider that Thailand's national sport is Muay Thai and that less than 1% of thier boxers ever has a go at western boxing their numbers are amazingly high. If they boxed as oppossed to Thai boxed I wonder how many champs they would produce.

This is hard to quantify. Sure there are only 3.7 Million people in PR and over 90Million in the Philippines (God its overpopulated) but I bet you that there are more people in PR who takes up Boxing than in the Islands.

I thought Cuba would have had more world titlist than they did.
