My mate asked me did I want to start training at a new boxing gym that his mate is setting up, I'm still considering it. I've always fancied a go, maybe I'll just get as far as sparring, that's good enough for me.

For me, it either made me peform better or just made me froze. The nerves at times were awful especially when I fought at Preston Guildhall, that was horrible lol.

i havemt fought for about 7 years. i was supposed to foight in a white collar show this time last year but had to pull out for medical reasons. basically had 4 stitches put in my lip a few dayts prior.

new gym opens 100 yards from my work today so planning on hitting it hard over summer and fighting again sometime soon.

technically (this is going to sound arrogant, sorry) Im pretty good and have spoarred with plenty of decent amateurs and quite a few pros and held my own (assuming they are roughly same size) it uisa my fitness which has let me down.

so if i get properly fit reckon I will do quite well. well i hope so. would be gutted of i didnt

So after labouriously reading this thread, 80% are arm chair critics who have v. littleor no experience on boxing.

I would assume the same percentage is true of those who commentate on the sport on a daily basis, be it either on TV or in print

Doesn't mean you cant have an opinion on it

it doesnt. but if we are talking mainstream sports, eg football, cricket, rugby etc pretty much everyone has played it at school at least so has some concept of what it is like to tackle someone, or to take a penalty or face a decent bowler.

so can comment with a certain degree of authority. 90% on here comment with a lot of authority and have never punched anyone in a ring and never been punched. a little different imo.

tbf, some of the best analysts of boxing dont appear to have done any on here but are very knowledgable and insightful :good

Just get into it and see where it takes you no point putting limitations on it already.

Trained in St. Francis', Limerick as a teen. Had to decide between that and footie and I'm 10x better at football so I went with that.

True, I tend to refraim from comments about fighters that would involve having intimate knowledge of fighting in a ring, questions of heart, stamina chin etc.

State of the sport and good match ups etc I feel ok to comment on:good
