Ok, since we have been doing all these enhance a boxer thread I thought I'd have a pop at one myself.

So here goes: You can take any boxer, past or present and move him to another weight. All his attribute would stay the same but he would just change his size scale to meet the weight. For fairness and not to confuse things lets say if he's a small heavyweight he will be small in every other weight and vice versa so in effect its just proportion we are changing.

The boxer must stay in his own time scale so if you move Duran in the 90's then its the 90's version of Duran you are moving etc. he cant be moved backwards or forwards in time.

Who do you think would come of better ie. if they weren't in a strong weight class or even the other way round - who would come of worse moving into a stronger weight class.

A bit confusing so fire any questions away and ill try and clarify any misunderstandings about the thread.

Not move but i would of liked Marco Antonio Barrera to have campaigned at Bantam weight for abit longer, if he was around that weight today would of seen some great fights in recent years against Rafa, Mares, Donaire etc. Marco was great when he had that ruthless Seek & Destroy style

It's not overly confusing. As a general point without referring to examples yet, I'm not sure styles play any particular role, as they would in say a thread about actually scaling up and down in weight. It's simpler, the better fighters would rise to the top and the also rans would falter in stronger divisions in terms of competition. The reverse is true, fighters that were less successful than their potential would suggest would have relatively more success in a weaker division. Of course, its assessing the potential of fighters and perhaps seeing past what's on paper for underrated fighters that is the essence of this thread. I would think the great, great fighters, the obvious ones, would transition into any weight class in any era. The only talking point here would be could fighters small in proportion for their weight class transition well against larger heavyweights, that's a discussion that's been done a fair bit. Apart from that its probably on an individual basis and the most interesting discussion would be the dark horse type fighters that could perhaps have garnered more plaudits in other divisions.

I always have arguments with my general fan friends about this, they always bang on about the heavier weights and I try and convince them there are better boxers and fights overall at the lower end of the scale but a lot of people can't see past size:-(

Agreed, as a bit of fun it works. As that definite of 'pound for pound' it's a total non-starter IMO

Thats what I'm hoping to hear about more but the thread would probably die a death if I limited it to just these.

A slight problem is imaginging a heavyweight like Nonito Donaire. It's not ever happened yet, without any known stylistic comparison, even in the loosest sense (I can't think of one anyway) its very difficult to reconcile how that would work with reality. But I suppose its possible in some loose highly theoretical sense.

Ayub Kalule may well have been a good middleweight if not forced to cut weight for so long, which shortened his career.
