They do, its just they do so in a fashion to where its a certain race(nationality) or region gets more love.

People from Brooklyn and the northeast region support Judah more than fans from the west coast
People from the bay Area and west coast support Ward more than fans from the northeast
White-Americans supported Pavlik alot and so did people form Youngstown
etc

Now you go to Puerto Rico its different Trinidad is a black puerto rican and gets just as much love as Gomez did, and nobody points out what part of PR they from, as they are from Fajaro and San Juan respectively.
