i think that support of a fighter comes down to what that fighter does for you on a personal level. in amercica, we are a bit spoiled by the amount of success our athletes enjoy against foreign competition. in just about any sport you can think of, we have representatives competeing at a world class level. we really have nothing to prove as americans, so we tend to subdivide into types of americans.
unlike other countries, where a champion in any sport is a rare commodity, we can afford to be choosey about which athlete deserves our personal support. we dont need to prove to the world that we are as good as any, at just about anything. the world knows.
