I know how this looks on paper BUT I was watching Lewis against Morrison (probably his finest all around outing) and looking at his lazy left. At times he flicked and left that jab hanging out there, using it more as a range finder than a legitimate weapon. Against a fighter of Morrison's limitations, you can get away with this. Would Spinks be able to capitalize? Would his herky jerky movement throw Lewis off? Is Spinks simply too mobile for lewis or would the bigger man take command, force the fight and take spinks out?

Lennox boxes with him until he realizes Spinks poses no real threat to him, once Lewis starts to get aggressive and throw power shots its all over for little Mikey Spinks

Lewis by Ko around the 4th or 5th

i likely see this as well, but do you think spinks right hand over the top puts caution into lewis? does spinks movement keep him safe from a still (relatively) stationary lewis?

His right hand could pose a problem but he posessed negligable power at Heavyweight, i wouldnt see it effecting Lennox that much even if his defense failed him

Although his movement would keep him safe, Lewis's hard shots would slow him down eventually and then it wouldnt take too many hard left hooks and overhand rights too take out the somewhat fragile Spinks

This fight is all wrong for Spinks in just about every way imaginable.. Not only did Lewis have the natural physical gifts to beat Spinks with, but also the right style, and Michael being a slow starter doesn't help him either.

    Spinks via ugly MD/SD

From what i recall, Lewis has never been in the ring with a boxer/mover type like Spinks, that possesed a very hard to penetrate defense, coupled with very sharp reflexes, as well as a ring IQ that was thru the roof.

If Lewis tryed to box with Spinls, he would get thoroughly outboxed, outjabbed, and just plain embarrassed. If Holmes could barely land his jab on Spinks, than neither is Lewis, who's jab is a full level or 2 below Holmes.

If Lewis tryed the "bumrush" approach, i think he would have success early on, and take most of the 1st half of the fight, while Spinks hops onto his moped and waits until Lewis gasses (which he's prone to do) and then Spinks would take over the mid to late rounds and cruise to a close descision victory. Lewis doesn't have the foot/hand speed of a prime Tyson, so i doubt he would be able to catch up with Spinks and put him away in similar fashion. But that's pretty much the only way Lewis wins, is by catching him early. No way in hell does he take a descision over Spinks. Bad style matchup for Lewis.

And if it's a 15 round fight? FUGGETABOUTIT! Clear descision win for Spinks.

I give Lennox the benefit of the doubt that had he been in with a guy capable of capitalizing on a lazy left, he would have made the adjustment...

I'm not willing to play Spinks cheap at heavyweight and underestimate his power and chin at heavy. He was awkward, fast, and unlike Foster, could dent heavies and keep 'em honest.

Basing Spinks' abilities at heavyweight on the Tyson fight is like basing Patterson's career on his implosion at the hands of Liston. Pure folly. Remember, he was only down against Tyson, and he was beaten before he got into the ring. He had serious power and a serious chin. It goes without saying that he had serious skills.

I think Spinks has the style and awkwardness to make to keep Lewis honest for 5-6 rounds until he figures him out, if at all. Spinks could conceivably stink out the joint and stay on his feet through 12, especially if Lewis is in "caution" mode... I still believe Lewis beats him by decision. no knockout. Spinks is too smart and too tough, plus, Spinks has the style to induce Lennox into "caution/boring" mode anyway...

If Lewis is in "destructo" mode, ala Golota, Grant, Morrison, Botha, this goes 3 rounds or less.

If Lewis could keep his hands down and let Briggs take full on shots at him, then I can't see Spinks possing much of a problem. If he was in destruction mode ala Ruddock, or Golota fans would be wanting their money back.
