Why Ring Mag has dropped Pacquiao from #1 to #2 on the rankings list?

Peterson number 1 at 140? Yes. Because he beat Khan. Losing to Bradley beforehand doesn't make your dethroning illegitimate. Triangle theory doesn't work in boxing, and P4P lists can't have fighter's victories as placeholders for ones that beat them beforehand. Nearly all fighters lose, and their future victories don't magically count for people that beat them beforehand.

(Pascal-Froch was a bad example because I was trying to bring up an example with fighters from the same division; my point was that Froch doesn't get credit for Pascal beating Dawson, and were he at LHW, he should rank below, depending on who else he fought.)

Couldn't agree more. Pacquiao is my favorite fighter also but Floyd is #1 on my P4P list.

Floyds wins over Mosley and Ortiz were better than Clottey and Marquez

well Marquez is better than Ortiz but Floyd handled Ortiz Pac got a disputed win

Its elementary and opinionated they are the 2 best about neck and neck and should just fight to settle it

Pacquiao would still be #1 if he had defeated Marquez convincingly. Mayweather wasn't far behind, just like Pacquiao is a close 2nd now.

In the eyes of Ring Magazine Pac lost to Marquez as they voted it their robbery of the year...... p4p #1 cannot be coming off a loss or controversial win where most felt he lost, especially when the guy who was ranked p4p #2 easily schooled the same fighter and only lost his #1 ranking due to retiring not losing a fight. When he came back everyone knew he was truly p4p #1 but couldn't award him the accolade until he upped his activity which he has.

Weird timing fosho though, they should of changed this the week after the Pac vs Marquez fight....and WTF is Wonjongkam doing in their top 10!!!! He just got KO'd by a journey man, that's the real ****ed up thing about their new rankings....Gamboa should be in his place fosho.

oh so you got Peterson number 1 at 140 and Marquez p4p King. :conf well lets just agree to disagree, but that logic doesn't work at all in my head. Especially when you have two undefeated fighters mixed in both scenarios that already beat the guys you're putting at number 1

No point in arguing. *******s always point to the Ring rankings as proof who is better. Now that it is Mayweather who is on top, *******s discredit the magazine. LMFAO!

I really cannot believe how little respect you show for this guy. The guy started his career fighting at Junior Flyweight, and is fighting and beating great (or once great) fighters anywhere from Welter to Junior Middle. That in and of itself is extremely impressive. I get it, you don't like the guy but seriously how can you attempt to discredit everyone of his greatest wins with the same excuse?

Regardless of what your opinion is Pacquiao is 2-0-1 against Marquez. Morales might not have been the same fighter he once was but he was good enough to win 1 out of 3 in their trilogy. Barerra was the number 1 p4p fighter in the world at the time Pacquiao KO'd him in the 11th round of their first fight, no ones leftovers at the time. DLH was on his way out, that's true but if you remember at the time, many felt Manny was pressing his luck and fighting still a world class fighter who was much to big and powerful for him, Pacquiao surprised a lot of people with how he handled & stopped even a worn Oscar. Hatton might have been Floyd's leftovers but Manny finished Hatton in spectacular fashion, and much much quicker then Floyd. Mosley has really never been the same since Vernon Forest, has been trending down for some time and was already leftovers of Forest when Floyd fought him. Margarito has always been a punching bag for superior fighters, and already had 5 loses when he fought Mosley, and without his plaster wraps he more then likely would have never been relevant, basically a Mayorga clone. And like I already said he is 2-0-1 against Marquez, despite what your opinion is.

You can do the same thing with any fighter, including Floyd, but why would you want to? I'm guessing your dislike for Pacquiao spawns from his popularity among casual "boxing fans" and to a degree I can understand, but can't you just hate on his moronic fans, but give the fighter at least the respect he has earned? for a guy his size to go on and do what he has done is really impressive, even if you think he is the master of recognizing the exact moment when a great fighter is "shot" but still considered a great name and challenge to pad his record, like he's some ****ing diabolical genius. I mean damn everyone he has fought and beat since Lehlo Ledwaba back in 2001 has been naturally bigger and stronger than him, yet he has managed since he jumped up from Flyweight to Junior Featherweight in 1999 to only lose one time in 31 fights to a sure fire first ballot HOF'er in Erik Morales, which he avenged twice by 10th & 3rd round KO's.

Look I don't think Pacquiao is the be all end all okay, his time is probably coming to a end soon as I think there is a strong possibility Bradley wins their upcoming fight, but the man has some major accomplishments. And he deserves just as much respect as a fighter as Floyd or any of the all time greats. :hat

I'll agree to disagree just fine, we put different emphasis on previous losses when compiling lists. To be the biggest win between competitors trumps a previous loss, and you can't transfer wins to fighters who didn't win them themselves. I don't really put too much time into ranking though, I just wanna see good fights at the top level, and I'm sure you want the same.

Floyd retired for 2 years...so are you saying he should have been given his number 1 ranking back when he came out of retirement after 2 years?
