I saw it on youtube, it was pretty sad to see beyond shot-to-**** Roy, still as an active fighter, with no muscle toning at all. :verysad

He should've retired after Tarver I, there was no question that he'd both clearly won, & clearly deteriorated very badly in terms of handspeed & reflexes.

It would have been ideal for him as a person and for the flocks of casual fans who judge him on fights after that.

I personally ignore every fight after then anyways but it's sad seeing superman reduced to journeyman.

    Excellent & depressing analogy.

Same as you, I don't negatively judge fighters for fights when I consider them shot, but it's more than just casual fans who hold Roy's losses as an extremely shot fighter negatively against him, & pretend he's very beatable, in any Prime H2H match-ups against other Greats, & I'm talking about some resident classic members too. :-(

I only hold losses in a fighter's prime against them. I like to judge a fighter on what they did in their best years and anything else is a bonus.

I know it's ok for robinson and charles to lose stacks of fights when shot but not jones. People forget how insanely skilled he was. Talking about in as if he'd get knocked out by a jab as well :-(

Not a Jones Jr fan, but man does he get **** on hard here. ****ing Brutally dismissed. By both General and Classic alike.

PowerPuncher goes to war for him though. :D

Aren't you perhaps thinking of someone else Tommy? :good

Although the Martin KO loss did remind me of the alleged dive in Ali II.

I'm just utterly puzzled as to how a man who started out at Middleweight & had few knockouts, knocked the ex-World Heavyweight Champion clean out. Not an old-timer sized ex-Champ either, but a modern-sized, muscular, imposing KO machine of intimidation & terror. Maybe Liston was totally shot & had lost his chin, but it's certainly strange that he didn't look shot in his 9 round brutal dominating stoppage of Wepner, 6 months later. I dunno man, maybe it was the possible heroin addiction that ****ed him up for Martin, but not for Wepner; fluctuating sizes of his hits?

I like to look at Peak, Prime, & Past-Prime. To just focus on my definition of Prime would not feel right. For instance, i'd say a fighter is "Prime" when they're capable of being Physically 100%, even if they slouched off in training & came in poor lethargic & listless shape. Whereas a fighter could be Past-Prime, but in better shape in a Physical sense, in terms of their maximum potential physical condition, compared to a fight in which they were in their Prime, if you know what I mean. E.g A Past-Prime fighter could be 80% Physically (80% of their max physical condition when Prime) for a fight, but in another fight when they were Prime, years earlier, they could've been only 50% Physically (or less!) due to a terrible training camp. Peak on the other hand, means Physically, Mentally & Technically at or extremely close to 100% in all three of those dimensions.

Despite being such a likable & charismatic guy, Roy is literally the most hated boxer on ESB!

PowerPuncher is a saint for giving him is rightful dues with detailed knowledge to counter the haters.
