Fair comment, tbh i watch all the fights that are shown on boxnation, even if its blokes i dont know. its boxing! G
F.W. went to free TV a few years back and I believe they pulled the plug on him. (According to F.W. at least, ITV wanted football instead.) Free TV just don't care that much. Maybe that will change with channel 5, but certainly they haven't cared much in recent years. Sky only gives limited coverage to boxing. You need more than just Sky showing boxing if you want good coverage in the UK. And actually, Sky is **** if you're just a boxing fan. If you just want the boxing, it's going to be pretty expensive for what you get. Why are you thinking that BoxNation, "damages boxing's broader appeal"? It isn't like if BoxNation didn't exist then all the stuff would be on free TV and boxing would have a regular audience of 10 million.
I think he makes a fair amount IIRC, Someone said it in a debate with him a while back. Something to do with clicks earning him £..
Much better schedule than they had at the start of the year...so yeah I was so pissed off at the way they launched and the skeleton schedule that I refused to give them my money until the provided more...and in April they seem to have started to realise that customers aren't going to just hand over money for nothing. STILL I hate the 6 month contract though.
The same guy who went to Setanta (which collapsed) and then to Sky (Khan PPV), I seriously doubt they'd pull the plug on good viewers. Boxnation DOES damage the broader appeal! The biggest publicity they've had is Chisora being a dick! The boxers on there right now will have the slight advantage of being known through Sky previously, but guys growing on it from start will have no luck. Without casual fans, the sport will starve to death. Because as this is a subscription channel, certain promises have to be kept throughout! I'll be very interested once fighter's contracts are up, we'll see if the channel is that great for them! I never said boxing would be on free TV, but ****** claiming he tries to sell fights to terrestrial TV must smell fishy as he sets up a subscription channel after PPV is pulled. How could ITV/BBC ever be interested in bringing it back if you have to pay to watch it on channel 456!? No one knows its there!!!
OK, well BoxNation makes the sport available for a reasonable price. As I say, Sky is a rip-off if you're just a boxing fan. (Even if it has a much larger audience of potential "casual" viewers.)
People here are really missing my point!!! I like a lot of sport, not just Boxing! ITV will always favour reality tv shite over sport.
I enjoyed the free trial at the beginning, but was put off subscribing when the changeover happened due to all the comments around the pay wizard thingy, up till now I've either missed out on the fights or watched them at Nutjobs house. Was paying for 2 mobile contracts up til now and now ones out the way I can no longer overlook subscribing to the channel, the fights theyve got coming up and the fact that we are having boxing on days when theres usually none to watch means its a no brainer for me As for this pint a week bollocks, maybe in a Northern working mans club but pints are virtually 4 quid round here
