Granted Cotto may have been better before going into that fight with Pacquiao(big if to me due to the trainer issue) but does Mayweather get more props for beating Cotto at full strength?

Id say from my point of view yes, going up to 154 to fight is better than any catchweigh, also I think manny got to cotto at the perfect time.
Will it be generally remembered as a better win? No way, he will always be pacs leftovers in the public eye.

    1) 154 is not Cotto's best weight, anyone who says otherwise is smoking crack. The guy has a 67 inch reach ffs.

    2) Just going by the eye-test, Cotto look physically better and stronger when against Pac than he did when he looked pudgy slow and gassed against Margo II.

    3) Anyone who goes thru a physical and mental beatdown the way Cotto did against Pac and Margo is and in all likelihood bound to lose "something"...ie, confidence, will...determination.

I think so. As long as Cotto doesn't suddenly go into a shell after getting tagged in the early rounds, which I think is extremely unlikely, then the better conditions Cotto has going into this fight will far outweigh any notions of "leftovers" people have.

They're both good wins, but I'd rate Mayweather's slightly higher due to the fact that there was no reason for Pacquiao to fight Cotto at a catchweight when he had previously fought De la Hoya at 147.

Also, Floyd is moving up to 154 to fight Cotto (who is the champ) when Manny would not.

Not to mention having a more than functional corner for this fight. Pedro Diaz is 1000X the trainer Joe Santiago will ever be.

What may hold it back for Floyd however is if he wins close...that might even things out.

    :rofl

Floyd has made it damn near a habit of fighting top 2 rated fighters throughout his career without a catchweight. It's not up for debate. :deal

You overestimate what a trainer can actually do bogo..

Bottom line, Pacquiao beat a younger, fresher better Cotto.

Didn't Cotto just struggle against totally shot Mayorga like a year ago? He hasn't beaten anybody of significance since losing to Pacquiao.
