I like Matthysse to win against Soto. I just feel like Soto won't get his respect with his nonexistent power at 140. Matthysse is just as good of a technician as Soto except he is naturally bigger and has more power.

    Round 7

Huge left and right uppercuts to the body by Soto coming forward. Lacerda tries to jab back at him, but nothing doing. Lacerda is trapped in a corner. Soto bends over to his left to get full leverage and rips away with BIG hooks. Lacerda flings jabs up from his overconfident low-hand stance while circling at mid-range. None of his jabs land. They're just window dressing. Soto keeps shuffling forward, not wasting energy. Double jab, right hand. Lacerda turns southpaw, feigns a right jab and instead lands a straight left. After that - his one clean punch all round - he showboats with a bit of "arms overhead" action. You go on with your bad self, hot dog.

    70-63 Soto

Man what happened to Soto? I used to say he would be the next big Mexican champion. He has never fulfilled his potential. So frustrating...

Ok ok...next time maybe just don't bother with that information, since it's doubtful anyone would have wanted it until the end of the broadcast/RBR anyway. :yep :good

I wouldn't say that, Soto won the WBC Lightweight title and defended it numerous times. However, I don't think Soto has that career defining win that can elevate him to the HOF.

    Round 8

Soto is stepping in and whipping hard left hooks to the jaw of Lacerda. They come together and Lacerda lands a low blow. Warned. He bows in apology. Soto shrugs and steps in to land more whipping hooks to the jaw. Lacerda is getting hurt now. Lacerda doesn't smarten up, though. He's still dancing around Soto in very much hittable range, popping lazy jabs and otherwise keeping his left low. Shoulder wriggling and showboating the whole while...until Soto steps in and zaps him in the mouth with a jab, or catches him on the temple with a big right hand.

    80-72 Soto

IMO he's still an overachiever no matter what he accomplishes - or doesn't - from here on out.

Look at his natural talent (or lack thereof). For a guy who registers as little more than "slightly above average" in every category across the board - he puts it all together very, very, very well and he's already had a decent career in terms of accomplishment for someone who is neither a slick speedster or a puncher or much of a standout anything...just an all-around good fighter.

    Round 9

Soto is bending left out of the way of Lacerda's weak jabs and hooking the heck out of his rib cage (and elbows, when Lacerda deigns to actually drop them rather than just pull straight back time and again despite its constant failure as an effective defense...) Soto is picking off lazy left jabs on his right palm and backing Lacerda up with much quicker and snappier jabs. Lacerda turns southpaw and saunters around to his left, flipping out right jabs. Lots of dancing around by Lacerda, next to no clean effective punching.

    90-81 Soto

    Round 10

Soto scoots forward quickly, gets low, and drives a left uppercut into Lacerda's stomach. Quick double jabs to the chin by Soto after straightening back up. Lacerda is floating around, flicking his flaky pastry jab. Soto knocks him back with a left jab and Lacerda dances around, breaking into a sideways trot to the amusement of the crowd. Soto lands his own jabs and ducks Lacerda's in rhythm. Hooks to the body by Soto bending over to the side. Lacerda flips a soft straight flurry into Soto's guard and is knocked back a few steps by a right hand. Lacerda keeps his hands low and his chin jutting out while backing straight up, playing macho. Bell rings. Lacerda pumps his fists, celebrating. :-(

    100-90 Soto
