Who in the history of boxing would you favor over Hearns at 147-154?

154 - Nobody
147 - Leonard=50/50

 

Not sure if he could be favored, but McCallum at 154 probably has the best chance of anyone to beat Hearns. That one's about 50-50. Either Hearns is able to keep his distance and stay disciplined enough to box and move the whole time, or McCallum catches him if Hearns indulged his tendency to exchange. If that happens, McCallum lands a few telling blows that sap some of Hearns' strength, and then McCallum finds it easier to get to him in the ensuing rounds and slowly breaks him down late.

Even McCallum would have to withstand some withering punishment to do that, though. But I think McCallum is the only man with the size, technical skills, power, and style to give Hearns serious trouble at 154.

 

Again with the Floyd comments. FFS. Hearns would have bludgeoned Floyd, possibly killed him. How ignorant do you f*ckers have to get? Really sad.

Sugar Ray Robinson is the only one I'd favor over him - but I'd like to see how he matched up with guys like Tito Trinidad and Paul Williams. Carmen Basilio might have given him trouble as well.

 

This is the the closest answer plus SRR @ 147 would be a slight favourite, but all fights depends on the distance over 12 I think he beats everyone @ 147 (Tito . . . GTFO) if its 15 SRR and SRL would be the only ones who would be 50-50 or slightly favoured.

Over 15 stamina became an issue, think tommy was up after 12 rounds against SRL.

Mike McCallum would give him a really tough fight.
At 147 I can't really see anybody. Floyd would be too small for a hungry hearns I think. Tito? he would get dropped cold in the first rounds.

At 154 possibly Leonard, but 154 Tommy is unstoppable.

 

The truth of the matter is Hearns was kinda chinny. If you could get to him he might go to sleep. I think McCallum could handle him at 154 and could do it kind of easily. I also think Terry Norris might be able to outhustle him and I could see Julian Jackson catching him and stopping him with a big punch.
But he was huge at 154, and still very fast so anyone who had a chance to beat him had to be special.

 

Tommy wasn't chinny, that is a big myth. People remember him for his loss to SRL when he got tired in the championship rounds and MMH who was the GOAT at 160 and he injured his hand early. That was followed by the blade who caught a little later on. Under 160 he was only down against SRL @ 160 MMH and Barkley above 160 he was down once. People act like he was down every other fight.

 

With weigh in on the day before the fight, Hagler could make 154, and I would give the nod to prime Hagler, but he's about the only one at 154 I would have much confidence in.

Hearns was great, but he absolutely was a fighter that could be hurt and had to really be careful at times. He was stopped 4 times. And 3 were clean KO's. Andries had him in trouble, Roldan had him on ***** street, Kinchen dropped him hard and he always seemed off balance.

Part of Hearns being exciting was in fact his questionable beard?????
