PBF-Chico Corrales was the greatest exhibition of boxing of this era

Barrera/Hamed was the other standout fight from that same year and IMO just as impressive.

 

probably third best after pac over barrera and hopkins over tito.

 

It's fair to say top 10, but that's not in the options. It's hard to rank performances, but it was truly great.

 

It's funny that three of the best ever clinics in the sport all took place in 2001.

(Four if you count Ricardo Lopez's decimation of a much younger and larger Zolani Potelo on the same card as Tito-Hopkins. It's probably a step down, but worth checking out if you get a chance.)

Other candidates for Top 10 include Forrest-Mosley 1 and Wright-Hopkins.

 

Chico is an overrated fighter to begin with.

Tall yet fights like a midget, slow and not exactly a one-punch KO fighter.

I don't know what all of you are smoking but chico feasted on fighters smaller than him.

 

It's certainly up there. Maywether was insane at these lower weights. He's excellent now as well but he was more complete back then.

Even though it's not that much of an outclassing, I'd put the first two JMM-Pac fights up there. In some of the rounds Marquez schools him badly and considering Pacquiao is such a highly ranked opponent, it's up there. JMM-Barrera is also an exellent exhibition. I also include Barrera-Morales because although it largely consists of brawling - the brawling holds quite extreme quality!

Hopkins vs Tito and Pavlik are obviously near flawless performances but Corrales and Pac, at the weight, are better/much better opponents and for me - that counts.

Calzaghe in the second half of the fight against Kessler is also high quality, although not at the same level of skill and opponent as the other choices.

Forrest-Mosley is a great shout. Insane to think that the same fighter lost against Mayorg just a while later.

Mijares-Arce is not at the same level but still a nice technical piece.

 

Special night from Mayweather certainly.

The guy who mentioned Pacman fighting a skeleton who wasnt even ranked in Oscar ... thats a poor one. His demolition over Barrera perhaps but not that one.

The fight is definitely up there, but given the opponent, you can't put him in the same tier as those listed.

 

When you have a versitile boxer vs a somewhat one demensional fighter..? I am sorry but it cannot go down as the greatest boxing display of this era. So in my opinion neither Hopkins or Mayweather can really have their wins over Trindad and Corrales up there.

Trinidad is a one demensional welterweight, up against a middleweight. And Corrales was a one demensional banger.

All great displays of ability and genius.

Pacquiao-Barrera I, of course, being the single best win of the decade. Manny didn't display a great deal of versatility that night, but then there was no need to. It's all about effectiveness, and MAB just had no answer for him whatsoever. When it comes down to dominating great opposition, there likely hasn't been a performance as impressive since Jones-Toney way back in '94.

 

I would definitely say top 3 of this era.
