i just recently decided to make my own ring to train in since the closes gym to me is over 45 minutes away. just wondering what you all thought about this. im on a real small budget right now so cant really afford anything fancy but thought this might do. its 15x15 so a bit small but seems to work pretty well. i used some nylon rope that so far seems to do well. the onlything that seems to be a problem is the ground is a little un leveled
I always recommend gym over home training but that's your choice. If the floor and slightly un leveled then it shouldn't really cause that much problem ..
Ok cool .... I actually do go to the gym it just takes a big toil on gas so have had to cut back on the amount which really sucks
Well when i used to go to my previous gym i would bike it for 10-15 minutes. Going to the gym would be fine but coming back would be all uphills, was like another training session. You can try biking it?
It's over 50 miles away unfortunately so pretty far to bike but I have been curing back my spending just so I can afford to go more than twice a week
Damn.. then stick with the home stuff but try not to develop too many bad habits when shadowboxing etc.. if so record yourself from time to time and post it up here so we give you feedback
Unless you have a training partner to spar with, not sure how a ring that's not regulation size will help you? I would say you need: Mirrors on a wall that show your entire body and feet (for shadow boxing and practicing footwork/movement) Heavy bag with enough room to circle around it - I'd recommend ceiling mounted to save space. Double end bag, also with enough room to circle around it. Speed bag - Good for shoulder endurance, hand eye coordination and practice slipping punches. Freddy Roach also has a cool left hook practice drill he does on the speed bag. Round timer. - Good for getting used to the standard work/rest times. Mitts - Only useful if you have a partner. Here is a thread I started a while back, shows what I have at home. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363598
There's a guy on here that has a ring in his garage I believe? With a bit of luck he might see the thread and be able to help.
This content is protected this is the ring i made. i know its pretty cheep but low on money. the wood and rope are both weather resistant so seems to be holding. I also own a heavy bag, speed bag, and working on making a cheep reflex bag right now. most of it is hung from an old swing set that i put a top on but seems to do well. And i do have like 4 friends i spar with. the only problem is 3 of the 4 train in mma (nothing at all against it) but only one really boxes. I should be moving in a year or so and then i should be able to find a closer gym.
i guess any ring is better than no ring ,,if thats what you want me personally would go with the training equipment witch some of slackers said (above)
I had the ring posts made my a fabricator- I ordered all the parts from various suppliers, and me and my wife made the rope covers from a clearance fabric from some fabric store. The floor is 1" foam designed for gym use, mainly for karate studios. It's fungus resistant and is better on the knees than concrete for sure. The area beside the ring has thinner interlocking foam for jumproping. There's a mirror in front of that too. The double end bag is hanging up in the mitt pics, but can be put in place to do bag work in the ring. The heavy bag is just outside the ring, and I like to do drills where I pin myself between the ropes and the bag, working on inside techniques, short punching, pushing, pivoting out, etc...
