I was thinking Mayorga and Margarito mate. Yeah he boxed well against Foreman although the kid was new to that level and didn't really have the power to worry Cotto. I ain't picking at Cotto i'm a big fan and have been for years, i said in my op that he has had a resurgence, meaning after the Pac defeat. But like i said i don't see how he can beat Floyd.
No. He's just a level or so below the very best fighters. Not to mention, he is not at his physical peak. But, the very best Cotto would likely still lose to the very best Pac and Floyd...how badly is something we can only speculate on, since they did not meet in their primes. I would really be surprised if his fight with Floyd is closer than a 4-5 rd UD loss. Both are past prime, but, Floyd is on a different level, IMO.
Two losses against top competition doesn't make you shot. especially after becoming the top guy at 154.
Past his athletic and physical peak? Absolutely. As a boxer, he's probably better than ever, although his pressure-fighting and in-fighting skills have regressed.
I always felt cotto was shot ever since the margo beat down where margo took his soul with the aid of loaded gloves. Not to mention cotto fighting soft touches like Jennings and struggling with clottey a fight I actually scored for clottey. Then we had the pac catchweight beat down. However with all that being said Cotto has certainly redeemed himself in recent years, especially at 154. People claim Mosley is shot, yet a shot mosley beat the **** out of a prime margarito, so how do ever truly determine what is shot or not. I would agree that cotto is past prime, so to is his opponent on may 5th. It should be a good fight.
