For the record I don't really care who wins this i'm just intrigued by the matchup.

But it's how Chavez gets inside.

Mcewen in the Lee fight (that isn't his usual style) and Chavez do both apply pressure but very differently.

Mcewen is listed at 6'1 but actually look taller than Lee, is a southpaw, and is indeed featherfisted

Mcewen has faster hands than Chavez, threw alot more combinations (most of which were upstaires), works his way inside, and is much lighter on his feet and can jump in and close distance quite effectively. Most of this is in stark contrast to what JCC has.

Chavez is flatfooted, somewhat plotting, and certainly doesn't jump in and close distance like Mcewen could. His hands are slower and he isn't much of a combination puncher and what he does throw is mostly to the body.

Most importantly he doesn't really work his way inside. Sometimes he'll throw 1 or 2 punches downstairs then step in but often times he'll simply shell up eat some punches and step forward. Against a similar sized opponent who punches hard and commits to staying outside this form of pressure may be unsuccessful. Someone Lee's size who is committed to working behind a jab and moving (Lee has effective outside footwork) won't be there for Chavez, it may share similarities to what happened to Cloud against Campillo. Moving and constantly turning him may hinder Chavez ability to get off or get inside.

Lee's southpaw stance may be a significant factor too. I'm interested to see if Lee focuses on implementing a right hook counter to Chavez's head when he tries throwing that left hook to the body. If he's successfull countering him with that it may make Chavez more reluctant to throw his premier punch.

Regarding Lee in the Mcewen fight Stewart wasn't there and Lee fought in a uncheracteristic manner. The entire fight he was loading up with single punches (left cross or right hook) trying to KO Mcewen with a single punch, no jab, no combinations. My prediction is working off the assumption that Lee in the biggest fight of his life with Stewart in his corner won't fight in this way.

Rubio has an impressive KO ratio but he is not a big puncher. Yes Lee hits much harder and im sure we will see that in the way Chavez reactes to the punches once they're in the ring.

    Zbik won...

Lee is very underrated on here. Most people have watched only his big American fights i.e. Vera/McEwan/Vera II. People who have followed his career from day one can see what he is capable of.

I think Lee will beat Chavez Jr fairly clearly but will be robbed on the score cards.

    Accept the challenge Michigan.

I think it's a 50-50 fight but will be rooting for my boys Chavez and Scott.

What's funny is that Chavez actually has a way better record: Duddy, Zbik, Manfredo Jr. and Rubio, while Lee is 1-1 against Vera and has a come from behind victory against nobody Craig McEwan.

LOL @ Chavez fans still listing Zbik as a quality win, not to mention Duddy and Manfredo.

Chavez has a better Chin and stamina than Lee. Though I think Lee has more skill Junior will win the fight due to being one of Arum's cash cows. However, when he faces Martinez he will get ko'd.

now this is the reason why i come to esb. every once in a while you get a nice post like this that makes it all worthwhile having to sift through the 90 percent of this forum that is pure garbage and from people that absolutely no nothing about boxing.

thanks for bringing up the fact that manny was not in lees corner for this fight. i wonder if freddy wasn in mcewans. regardless, this is do or die for lee and he knows it.

-300 on chavez(current odds) in texas(i do not believe that corrupt judging will be a factor because of the public disapproval on the recent molina/kirkland scorecards and the failed post fight chavez test) is very pricey. especially taking into consideration that zbik, who took jr to the brink of defeat, was stopped by light-hitting sturm.

if you had to make a bet, it would have to be lee.
