I can relate to much of this.

As for pre 20s fighters, I know they were great, because fit & athletic people were the real deal at anytime in human history, especial warriors and fighters... so we have primitive film production, but people were still normal as we know life to be.

I wouldn't say I have zero interest in todays game, more like waning interest and contempt... mostly through overhype, media build up and just second & third rate talent being sold as great - NO it isn't!!!

I am more interest in GREAT Contenders, and IF I had the money to free up my time I would embark on a very serious and lengthy Volume of such Greats, because their stories are worth knowing and often you'll find that feared & avoided Contenders are the People's Champions and just as great as any Great and in many an instance better.

Boxing is such a crooked game, the amount of worthy fighters out their would surprise. :deal

Good post like almost all of them . I just don't know what u find about McAvoy and what's his name . I've seen what u posted about them , but in reality they rarely fought any1 and when they did , they lost .
If they had that much potential and a little brain then they would've emigrated 2 where d money was , but they didn't do it 4 some reason . I don't think they were avoided like u do , maybe i m still missing something about them , but i still guess that not .

I can't get interested in Oscar DeLa Hoya.
    Bernard Hopkins.
    Mayweather barely interests me.

I'll admit that Monzon is a struggle to get inspired by, even though I rate him highly.

Emile Griffith, and even Dick Tiger.

And Michael Spinks, who I thought I liked at the time, is a little boring, and his resume is a bit lacking despite what some might say.

only fights of Saad i've seen were 1 of his fights against Qawi and his fight vs Greggory , even d Qawi fight was mainly due 2 my interest in Qawi . With Duran i've only watched him vs Barkley , Hearns , his 2 fights against Castro , I think almost entirely , part of his fight against Ernesto Marcel and I don't think much else .

Tunney, Liston, Benitez, (JM) Marquez stand out for me.

Era-wise well, I love the pre 30s in terms of history and "story-wise" but watching actual fights from then is not a hugely enjoyable experience for me.

I'm a little surprised at Tunney getting a few mentions. For some reason, I've always found his fights to be some of the most watchable of that era.

Carlos Ortiz is another fighter who I've seen rated very highly but of who I have failed to get inspired by.

    they are not alone.

EVERY Champion could have faced someone - that much goes without saying and this We CAN'T & DON'T hold against great Busy champions.

BUT the Champions who hardly faced anybody or avoid outright one or two leading contenders, well they have to be looked at more seriously. Great fighters often talk about their hardest fight(s) and surprisingly it's not always an elite name!

But the biggest fact are those contenders who's LONGIEVITY was as long or longer than even the supposed champion, Years at the TOP, accounts for more than anything, Champion or Contender.

McAvoy & Gilroy didn't go to the States because of the War 1939 -45, Mcavoy was there in 1935 and 36 and the 5'9" middleweight blasted out in 4 of his 5 fights in the States lossing only to the much bigger all-time great JHL. Gilroy never got there at all, but was asked to come by none other than the great Charlie Rose, Gilroy also a 5'9" middleweight, Scotland's longest champion 13yrs and No.1 British Contender 10 yrs. yet wasn't allowed near a belt fighting L-HWs & HWs.

but they are not alone, it would be a great research project, to cover about 100 of these guys at everyweight through the long history of Boxing!

With a few exceptions, I find the light heavy and heavyweight divisions on the whole to be a bore.

It's probably easier to name the fighters in those divisions that I am interested/inspired by than the ones I'm not.

As far as light heavies go, I like Harold Johnson, Joey Maxim, Victor Galindez, Dwight Qawi, John Conteh and Jorge Ahumada.

As far as heavies go, I like Larry Holmes and Rocky Marciano.

There are of course periods in the sport where I lack interest in all the divisions, but that's usually down to a lack of footage more than anything else.
