Great night of boxing at the Odyssey. Post-fight presser was very lively too, Rogie and Hennessey had a massive row.

 

I have it on camera thanks to Bren and Wellings I guess.

Meanwhile I watched the Battle of The Falls. A bizarre and exciting contest. Dew Walsh is a wee *******.

Does anybody else think the BUI should raise the title fights to 12 rounds? Even before the Fury - Rogan debacle I always felt it would be more beneficial for our lads to be fighting over 12 rounds for the Irish title. It is usually a stepping stone for boxers to be moving to EBU, British, Commonwealth and maybe World Title fights. By raising the rounds it gives Irish boxers early experience of a 12 round fight, not only in the ring but also in training for a 12 rounder.

 

No, personally I dont. Most national titles are 10 rounds and are supposed to be a stepping stone to international titles.

Just because the Brits have 12 rounds I dont see why we should, a 12 round national title is an exception not the norm anyway.

Three scoring judges would be ideal but its expensive lads, and to be honest not necessary - it would mean LESS Irish title fights.

Me and the Rogmeister may have fallen out but I was in full agreement with him on this one.

 

Surely the end of the road for Rogie? He was in great shape, but his punch resistance is gone. Fury caught him with a body shot in the 3rd and you could see Rogie backtracking. Looked at his corner before he was put down in the 5th as well.

Not the most technical fighter anyway, so he is always going to have to take a punch before he unloads on his opponent. So if his punch resistance is gone, he is basically a sitting duck.

 

That's fair enough. I wasn't necessarily implying that we should just do what the British do.

I agree with your point about three judges. A good ref can make the same call as three competent judges the majority of the time. Judging by recent standards, three competent judges are a thing of the past anyway.

 

Just spoke to a friend there who went onto the Ladbrokes bookies on the shaws road in west belfast and he told me that a girl behind the counter told him and a few others that they chad gotten a phonecall before the fight to stop taking bets on it.

Is there any other lads here from Belfast who have heard this or can confirm this?

EDIT. In fairness ladbrokes were the only ones to stop taking bets. Paddy powers and the rest were still taking them
