The Kirk Johnson Comeback seems to have come to a standstill

I have no idea. Unlike some posters on this Forum, I do not know Kirk Johnson personally. I would like to know if he has retired or not.

The only comeback Kirk is making is to the Timmie Horton's

 

I completely agree. Exposure -- even against a succession of "C" level opponents at first -- would have helped Kirk fine tune his skills, and restore the name recognition so vital to regaining his high profile. The succession of small time victories would have made it easier to get Kirk a regional alphabet trinket, too, which is necessary for a top-15 ranking.

I remember when Foreman started his comeback in 1987. At first, I figured Foreman would take a couple of tune-ups then cash out quickly with a big fight, win or lose. But the opposite happened: which surprised me. As time passed, it became increasingly clear that Big George's comeback strategy -- a lengthy succession of fights against mediocrities at first -- was correct from an athletic and promotional standpoint.

Kirk should have done a miniature version of what Foreman did.

 

Kirk Johnson had a lot of talent, good amateur background, power, skills, but he had a problem with doughnuts! Teddy Atlas picked Johnson to knock Vitali Klitschko out with one punch, but Teddy was wrong, as Vitali knocked Johnson out in the second round. Yes, The whale was harpooned. However, if he were to train really hard, he could beat a lot of top heavyweights today, but not a Klitschko................

 

At least theres no hate on here for Kirk. Think about how much hate there would be if this was about Bowe, or Lewis or even talking about a Holyfield fight.

 

Fighters like Johnson along with all the other top guys from the socalled "great" 90's cant seem to make even a small dent in this socalled weakest division in history.:think But the young guns from the great 90's were getting their ass handed to them by fighters from the 60's, 70's and 80s..:hi:

 

Would love to see him make a dedicated comeback, but don't think he will.

Kirk Johnson did an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation recently, which seemed to suggest he was an active boxer still. I really wish he would officially retire or get back in the ring.:bbb

 

I'm so pissed this comeback didn't happen. I might be the only one, but I think it could have been really entertaining.
