Doug Fischer - Cotto arguably has a better shot now than in 2007

Allowed Norton to beat Ali 3 times and Foreman to compete and beat top 90's HW's when he was an old man...

I think Cotto has a good chance but he's still not the same! He was a killer in 2007...

None the less, you're picking him to win. He's a good fighter. We'll see what happens May 5th.

i disagree, what happened in my opinion is that he fought better competition, more quality opponents that would have giving him HELL even at his best. I fully agree with Doughs opinion...

In my opinion, the jury is still out on Cotto. His reign at 154 hasn't proven anything to be honest. But he HAS looked good vs the comp he's faced at least.

Cotto has the same chance now that he had back in 2007. And that is no chance at all. :deal

Just so I can disagree with you about something, let me point out that in Nevada your hand wraps are given to you in a plastic bag and NOTHING that isn't in that bag is allowed. In California they allow you to bring some of your wraps 'pre made'. That is how the 'tainted' wraps got introduced and why the second Margo fight was starting to go the way of the first. Had Manny not fscked up the eye for Cotto to target it appears the second fight would have gone the same way.

I had hoped Steward was right and that the shoulder surgery would turn Cotto into a true two fisted fighter. I really saw no evidence of that against Margo. I like Cotto and would love to see him win this fight but I just don't see it happening.

The important word here IMO is...
...you can argue that Cotto has improved greatly in certain areas, and good in others. You can also see that his love for the sport is back, training hard, and after gaining revenge over Margarito...there is no questioning that he is in a good place mentally. Add on the fact that he he seems to have developed a great relationship with Diaz, he seems to trust him already, and they work well together.

On the other hand, you can argue that all of the positives above can be cancelled out by just two points.

    • Cotto took two career changing beatings, equating to a lot of wear and tear.

    • Cotto doesn't have the mentality of an undefeated boxer anymore. Which isn't always a bad thing, but he was ruthless a few years back, he never knew when to give up...getting off the canvas plenty. But again, you can argue this point that he has shown even just back to the Pacquiao bout that he at the very least wanted to see the final bell.

IMO, Cotto of 2007/8 had a better chance of beating Mayweather. Why? Because I believe at that point, Mayweather was not a fully fledged WW, and Cotto would of had the strength advantage, which could have benefited him at close quarters...enabling him to dig bodyshots in. However, now, I think Mayweather has that advantage in strength, and he's not afraid to stand there and test it either...which isn't good for Cotto as Mayweather can take the centre of the ring and cut the ring off with minimum movement whilst picking accurate shots.

You can improve technically even as you deteriorate physically.

    DA TRUTH:deal

I've watched that margo II fight about 10 times now & it's a sad truth that Miguel is near on done. Very slow of hand & foot in comparison too 2007 & the higher weight is not a benifit too him. He'll have the odd successfull round but he's a full-time back foot fighter now & Floyd will march him down in the later rounds for sure, i hope not but the reality is Floyd would never ever fight Cotto if he thought he was at risk of getting hurt & losing. On paper it looks good but in reality it's a badly beaten up fighter who's just secured his last big payday.
