I'm trying to figure this guy out. I'm just studying his films now.

I was impressed with Chazz's guts and determination against Arreola. Chazz came out with both guns blazing, and made a "Philadelphia fight" out of the affair as long as it lasted. I liked Chazz's combination punching ability. But I noticed that Chazz had no capacity to hurt Arreola. Worse yet, when Arreola turned up the steam, he had Chazz out on his feet. That bout was no DQ; it was a TKO win for Arreola. Shame on the officials.

I did not get to watch the Thompson fight. All reports, however, indicate that Chazz got dominated, and was hurt by almost every solid punch Thompson landed. Is this true? I don't want to trust the articles blindly.

As for the majority of Chazz's wins, I don't know what to make of them. This is because Chazz is known to have good sponsorship money, which means that he has the luxury of picking his own opponents. The biggest wins on his resume so far are Swamp Donkey Adams, Jonathan Hagglar, Kendrick Releford, and Talmadge Griffis.

I'm impressed that Chazz won a wide UD over Releford. Releford is a tough, underrated heavyweight. That Chazz won this fight big is a major thumbs up sign in my book.

But the other indicators on Chazz's record, so far, have given me reason for pause. I'm not saying he's bad, but I think I need to take a closer look before rendering judgment.

Chazz says he's going to take it to Seth Mitchell this month -- fight him -- break him down psychologically, and put some hurt on him. What do you guys think of that approach?

I think he's a fairly talented fighter with the right last name. Him and Monk Foreman would be a nice fight for the names alone.

I think that's a huge mistake. Withersoon doesn't seem to have the power to engage Mitchell in an up-close slugfest. His best chance is to stay away and try to outbox Mitchell.

    Which is unlikely to happen.

Mitchell by an easy mid-round KO.

I agree with everything you said, except that I think Mitchell could end this fight within three rounds. It is very unwise for most fighters to stand and trade shots with Seth Mitchell. The few that can do it have certain physical and stylistic attributes which Chazz appears to lack.

Chazz's performance against Livin Castillo, in particular, makes me wonder about his chances with Mitchell. I didn't see the Castillo fight, but I found this on boxrec. Did anyone here see the match, and is the following accurate?

Witherspoon, nephew of former world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon, outlasted veteran Livin Castillo in a bout decided more on physical conditioning, less on boxing skill. Castillo, who lives in Atlantic City, site of this bout, took the bout on three weeks notice. For three rounds, Castillo thoroughly outboxed Witherspoon without ever being touched. Castillo's plan was to establish dominance in the early rounds and get Witherspoon out without having to go to the later rounds. Castillo could not get Witherspoon out, but succeeded in making the former Golden Gloves champion look bad. Castillo landed many jabs for three rounds, but could not get Witherspoon out because he failed to cut off the ring. In the fourth round, both men fought for foot position. Castillo landed many jabs, while Witherspoon landed power shots and began to put pressure on Castillo by backing him up. Even round. In the fifth, Witherspoon began to jab with both hands and scored, while some of Castillo's punches began to miss or fall short. A close round, perhaps even, perhaps for Witherspoon. In the sixth, all of Witherspoon's jabs were landing, while Castillo appeared to fade, missing or falling short with ALL of his punches. In the seventh, Castillo appeared out of gas, got knocked down, got up and desperately tried to hold on for dear life. Witherspoon flurried on a defenseless and helpless Castillo nonstop on a corner, forcing the referee to stop the bout. Witherspoon's plan was to box cautiously and patiently without punching himself out and wait for Castillo to run out of gas. It worked, but the bout raised big questions about Witherspoon's lack of offensive abilities against his world class opponents Chris Arreola and Tony Thompson and how he would fare against similar 'A' level opponents in the future. He did not throw his right hand or appear aggressive, only near the bout's very end. A brief bizarre moment occurred early in the bout when Castillo, Witherspoon and referee Earl 'The Pearl' Brown somehow got tangled up in a clinch and all three strangely tumbled to the canvas in a neutral corner, referee Brown landing on top of a dazed Witherspoon. Nobody was hurt. This bout was the main event of a six bout card at Trump Taj Mahal, the first for Spartan Fight Promotions and CEO Michael Brestle.

Chazz Witherspoon is the reason why we have Chris Arreola. Thanks Chazz.

He lacks world class whiskers, which is why he will always fall short.

kind of athletic compared to most heavyweight contenders, good power, not very durable, exciting with decent heart. he either wins or crashes and burns. Oh, by the way, terrible stamina.

We dont know lots about Mitchells chin just yet

we also dont know just how good he is

yes he took out Timur a guy that has been tough vs many and has good wins but Mitchell is a puncher he caught the guy and KO'd him....what he hasnt done is out box a guy thoroughly

Chazz can get to Mitchell and we can learn more about how he takes a punch...if Mitchell is the real deal he should take out Chazz like other have before

Okay, I'm sold on the idea that Chazz can connect with his right. But how do you rate Chazz's power? On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think?

havent seen enough of the guys fights to rate power but then agai nwe havent seen mitchell get nailed enough to gauge his chin

im sure Chazz hits hard enough to stop a guy if he can hit him clean enough or with enough shots

  15. brave,pretty good power,decent speed,average chin,second rate stamina
    Mitchell by (T)KO3

And Seth and Witherspoon are both college grads. Heavyweight first.
