Possibly, but who should be higher?

 

Adonis is up there in age but he's a southpaw with awesome power for a 168er. He's also trained by Steward so we'll hopefully see him a lot in the next 2-3 years. The real problem will be finding top contenders willing to fight him...

 

Steward trains superman? no way did not know that!
AA would beat him, pavlik would beat him, no?
he's a great boxer, but he hasn't really fought any big names yet, not sure how he got up to 6th.

 

It is boxrec computerized ranking. Of course he's too high. He has only faced prospects at best so far but we should see soon what he's worth. He's fighting this Saturday against Noe Gonzalez. Two prospects against each other.

Nobody will give him a chance so he'll go from his present opponents level to an eliminator fight. That will be a huge step. About Steward, I am doubtful he will transofrm him. Stevenson has tremendous power but his technique is average at best. Steward can improve it a bit but at 33, there is a limit you cannot trespass. I also think the Steward of today is not what he was.

 

Strong contender level. Will get his ears boxed off by the first pure boxer he meets in the ring. Seeing how Ward won't fight his WBC mando, maybe we'll get Anthony Dirrell vs Superman for the vacant title late in the year.

Until then, he be knocking motherfukkers out left right & center.

 

What a fight that would be. :bbb Dirrell likes a good scrap and Superman is more than willing to oblige. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure that it's worth the risk from Dirrell's perspective.:think

 

Well, Anthony has not a so big name that he can avoid a title eliminator but I agree It would be a big risk/low reward fight for him.

Now we got Steward praising Superman, says he's 1st or 2nd best in the division. And he's serious.

Says the belt holders won't give him a chance, that they're going for an eliminator.

He also appreciates Stevenson's endurance in the gym... and says he carries his power late on if you look at the Pryor fight (and immediate, subsequent high jump).


They're going the WBC route as said by GYM. Anthony Dirrell will probably get a call next week.

Not exactly that. Boxrec ratings are an objective system of estimating fighter strengths and are to be taken as a loose indication of how good a boxer is. This is by no means **** but a decent objective system whose results should not be over-interpreted (in particular, the precise order of the fighters in their rankings is most probably "wrong").

So for all four major belt-awarding boxing boards rankings, Adonis Stevenson is currently top 10 material (champions aside). He's also #9 for another objective ranking system (the one used by IBO). This is remarkable, especially since no other fighter is top 10 according to all the 5 rankings (but some of them come close: Abraham, Rodriguez, Anthony Dirrell, Groves). The meaning of these rankings: Adonis is seen by all the boards as a good contender who might have a word to say at SMW. Of course, his 6th position in current BoxRec SMW rankings is very debatable, but keep in mind that his 373 points rating is not significantly higher that the ones below him and thus has very relative meaning. Probably he should actually rank somewhere just shy of the top 10 SMW.
