I like Tommy Morrison ..especially the way he used his head and a sound strategy to beat an OLD George Foreman, who would go on to ko an even chinnier, less smart Michael Moorer, and of course I admire that left hook of his, but in terms of heart AND the ability take a punch, he takes a back seat to Primo Carnera.
I'm like Mr Zukauskas's wife,I remain unconvinced by that "ko". When did Carnera ever produce that either before, or again? The consensus does not persuade me, I like to think I am a capable of making up my own mind. Carnera fought men 85lbs + lighter than himself and not only, could not floor them , he never had them in any trouble. This does not just speak volumes to me, it shouts them from the roof tops.:-(
Jack Sharkey was probably washed-up though. He was knocked down in his next two fights - against King Levinsky and Tommy Loughran. As for Carnera - common sense tells me that anyone who weighs 260 solid pounds will produce a bloody hard punch once in a while !
Well he knocked other guys out too. I'm not saying the fight was legit. I don't know. But Jack Sharkey was washed-up so it doesn't even seem remarkable to me.
Tommy Morrison by KO in 7. He would be troubled by Carnera's size and jab, but he would finish Primo without playing games and taunting like Max did.
I think Tommy stops him .. Primo was no puncher and slow to boot and tis plays into Morrison's weaknesses ..
I think a prime Morrison would stop him, too fast, too athletic, this would be a war while it lasted, i think both guy's beat each other up pretty good, until Morrison catches him flush with the left hook., timber....
I could see it go either way. With his steroids, Morrison has about an even chance. Without-& I do not know when he was clean-little. Morrison could hit about as hard as anyone, but against top level guys was suspect, so was Primo generally.
Carnera would have demolished him, and he would not have got any credit for it, because his doing so would simply prove that Morrison was a bum!
