Ruben Olivares, who switched to boxer to defeat Chucho Castillo in '71...a major departure from the style that made "Rockabye Ruben" famous..
Greg Haugen, who had mostly been described through most of his career as the"tough-guy saloon brawler"..when in actuality he had subtle, clever skills as a boxer..and he had to because he certainly was never much of a puncher..he demonstated his boxing skills very well vs Jimmy Paul and in the first wo Pazienza fights, esp. the second one.

I've talked to supposed experts like Mike Casey that have said otherwise. What is your argument here? That noone has ever been underrated?

I think that Jhonny Gonzalez who's still fighting these days is an underrated tachtician even if his chin always seems to let him down. He can do a lot of subtle stuff inside and outside.

Most painfully to me, Joe Frazier...remembered as a guy with one arm!!! people seem to have forgotten that he had a great right hook as well and used it frequantly, especially to the body..people also seem to forget that he was perhaps one of the best HW body punchers ever...I understand that every boxer has limitations, and some of Joe's have been exposed, but he had more than one hand and more than a hook in that hand!!!

I have encountered many who completely overlook Chavez's technical skills in light of his great body punching/offensive work/resiliancy/heart/chin toughness and is many times labeled as a guy who would outlast his opponents, rather than beat them...perhaps based upon the Taylor fight, as I am learning that most people base their picks on a vastly limited ammount of footage...

Hagler is so often portrayed as homicidal puncher destroying opponents in 3 rds (ala Hearns) and that he could only fight going forward, and if a skilled guy applied Mugabi's plan he was beatable...yet when guys like Leonard & Duran (I know past his prime) made him the aggressor and countered off of him more he was able to be pushed to the limits..I think Hagler was extremely versatile and does not get near the recognition for it from the masses!!!

:good exposed only against one horrible style match up with the destroyer Foreman, and exposed as only an equal to THE GREATEST. I could easily pick Frazier over Holmes, Louis, Lewis and Marciano, H2H

I don't know about underrated, but one fighter rarely mentioned among the skilled ones is Zale. I thinke he's very nice to watch. Compact and economical.

Pressure fighters like LaMotta, Marciano and Frazier often gets underrated skillwise. Always take plesure in watching Frazier outjab Foster.

Zale's reputation is held hostage by his trilogy with Graziano.
