There's completely no reason why anyone would suspect that... but there are always those kinds of people around who still do without any proper evidence. :bart

Yep, and it's also questionable whether he's above Stas' level.

Dimitri is an alright fighter, passing fair as a top-10 contender or even a paper interim/vacant titlist...but head & shoulders above a Balzsay who's just a touch on the slide? :think Very tough to say.

Both are based in Germany but not ethnic krauts themselves - and I'm pretty sure both are under the Universum banner, so it's also difficult to determine who might benefit from a homecooked/promoter's decision. :conf

AM-DDLM is very underrated; most people were wowed by the performance against Darchinyan and still buzzing off of it, while most people didn't see Kameda vs. De La Mora live and still haven't to this day. Just a glance at Boxrec, and "Oh, he lost to Koki? Well then he'll definitely be outboxed by this superb technician that dismantled Vic!". And like you, I thought Koki should have lost close but clear that night. (er, morning for us...)

I do ultimately favor Anselmo, but as you say in a probable close one.

De La Mora has the right style to bug him a little. We haven't really seen Moreno deal with intelligent pressure. Darchinyan came forward but I wouldn't say there was much method to his madness. Cermeno just posed in orbit and then repeatedly lunged in from too far away (and got pasted with straight lefts as he pulled back out) - no clue how to fight a southpaw. Ignore the "SD", those fights weren't really close.

Probably the best pressure fighter Moreno has faced was Mahyar Monshipour - and MM's a good deal more wildly aggressive than DDLM. Even so, he really pestered Moreno and bothered him a lot - giving him fits and making life hard on him, even when losing rounds...and that was a deservedly very close SD win for Anselmo...

The first win over Sid was close & competitive as well. It isn't as though Moreno can float like a butterfly and easily outbox anybody at the elite level. Doing it to Darchinyan is one thing, but...

David has proven he can be effective and not the least bit confused against a high-class southpaw. He has shown the ability to cut off the ring and work behind a jab with solid footwork while going to the body and forcing the pace. This won't be anything close to a shutout, but at the end of the day Moreno will probably just be too quick and slick and will figure out a way to adapt to DLM by the mid rounds and then coast from there.

If Moreno comes in lax, with the mentality of "Oh, it's just some Mexican brawler, I don't really need to be alert on my toes for this one..." he could get in serious trouble early on and perhaps never fully regain his composure if David can keep stepping up the attack and keep his featheres ruffled. There is that slim chance for an upset, but it's Moreno's fight to lose. He just won't dominate or pitch a clinical shutout as some people are guessing, IMO.

Now, Moreno vs. Mares - it's funny. :yep Once again disproving triangular theory in boxing, I feel that Mares would be a MUCH easier assignment for Moreno than DLM and would actually lose by something close to shut-out...but, I feel that h2h Mares should be favored over DLM. Weird, right?

Reason being: Mares' style plays securely into Moreno's hands. He'll follow and be countered all night, and his body shots will fall short as the reach & speed advantage is exploited by Chemito. De La Mora would have those same disadvantages but is actually better at working his way inside in a disciplined manner than is Mares.

Meanwhile, Mares is just wrong for De La Mora. I see the likely outcomes as being, in order:

    1) Mares grinds him down to a late stoppage
    2) Mares wins a close, possibly controversial decision (with De La Mora maybe even edging more rounds but getting dropped a couple of times)
    3) De La Mora nicks it by the skin of his teeth on the cards.

De La Mora's in-betweener style will allow him to outbox pure brawlers, and apply troubling smart pressure to pure boxers like Moreno - but a guy like Mares who can mix it up, box and punch with ferocity and who is much stronger and more powerful...that's a bad look for Dave. Koki caught him with some shots, that would have been more devastating coming from Abner. While I did have De La Mora winning that night, it wasn't like it wasn't close. He fought on very even terms for long stretches with Kameda, who is good but just inferior in almost every department to Mares.

    Styles make fights. :good
