Was Bute really ready, and willing to go to Oakland, and Ward STILL didn't wanna hear anything about it?

I knew he was willing to come to USA to fight, and Ward still swerved, but OAKLAND! DAMN! That really makes Ward look bad. . .

Noob fans seem to think Bute is "cherry-picking" Froch at the end of a hard career, but it's just the opposite - Froch was simply a last resort if Ward fight couldn't be made. . .

"I am ready to fight the winner," said Bute, a native of Romania based in Montreal, in his ever-improving English. "If Carl Froch wins, I'm ready to fight in Nottingham [England] to make this fight happen. And if it's Ward, I can go to Oakland."

But then Bute was clearly lying about being willing to fight Froch in Nottingham, England... this fact was made to us clear from his actions that followed those statements.

Damn. . . Yeah, basically Ward shut down negotiations before htey could even begin. . .

Very disappointing. . . I just don't see how you can justify it? Why not just take a nice little break - and then make the Bute fight in mid summer like June, or July? (Since he did injure his hand against Froch). . . Bute wasn't invited to teh Super-6. . Not his fault. . Ward accepted. . Doesn't give you the right after you win it, to then duck the best fighters. . .

SMH. . Ward, take a page out of Froch's book, please!

"So I don't have to go to Lucian Bute right now," Ward said. "We're going to sit back and I'm going to rest and we'll see what's next. I'm open for a Mikkel Kessler clash. I would love to get that rematch and settle that score, since he feels like it wasn't a legitimate victory [in the opening round of the tournament]. Going up to light heavyweight for the right fight -- not to campaign up there, but for the right fight -- is an option. So we've just got to sit back and see what makes sense. I think I earned the right to pick the right fight for the right price."

Rather than talk up a fight with Bute, Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) instead tried to play matchmaker, suggesting that Bute face the vanquished Froch, who has trash-talked Bute and riled up his Canadian fans over the past few years.

    _________________________________________________________________________

    Then he sais this:

"I was disappointed," Ward said. "Bute and his promoter were screaming and yelling that I was ducking them, then they go and make a two-fight deal with Froch where if he loses, he takes Froch back to Canada? I didn't understand that. I was never ducking him, I just wanted to build up the fight. I was coming off two years of grueling fights and I felt he needed to fight someone. But ducking him? Come on. He wants belts, I have three belts over here if he wants to fight for a belt."

LOL. . . Bute makes himself look desperate by begging Ward for a fight. . . Calling him out for months. . . Ward doesn't even want to negotiate. . . So Bute basically makes the second best fight available. . . And he is GOING TO NOTTINGHAM! Of course he wants an insurance policy if he gets robbed by the judges. . .

I love how Ward doesn't even address the most likely possibility - Bute BEATING Froch, and then him having to find another excuse to duck Bute this fall. . . Hopefully I'm misjudging Ward, and maybe he just wants time to recover from an injury he suffered in the Froch fight, and he'll step up to Bute this fall.

I'd alos like to point out, that while yes, Ward does get props for entering, and winning the super-6. . . But he HAS NOT had "two years of grueling fights". . . 1.) He NEVER travelled outside of his home country (which every other boxer did). 2.) Between the Kessler, and Froch fights he arguably fought lesser competition than Bute - Magee, and Johnson > Bika, Green, and Abraham. 3.) See 1, and 2. . .

Also had Pavlik, and Kessler pull out from fighting him...

Lol there's this one guy on the HBO boxing facebook page, who has an account entitled "Everybody is Afraid of Lucian Bute." At first I just thought he was a joke, or a clown; just trolling, and going overboard, but I'm starting to think there's some truth to it.

Lol, quoted for truth. . . So far in 2012, there have only been a few true "pick 'em fights": Cunningham/Hernandez. Salido/Lopez (in hindsight that really shouldn't have been, though). Judah/Paris. Liakovich/Jennings. Maidana/Alexander. Rigo/Rico Ramos kinda was. . . Garcia/Morales.

Campillo/Cloud SHOULD have been - many of us saw that stylistic nightmare for Cloud. . .

Most of the time boxing fans will intentionally pick against the odds if they think in the least the underdog has a chance; because like you said - if it's not for money it's just for fun, and they want to challenge themselves.

There is very rarely a true "pick 'em" fight in boxing these days. . . Especially for the "BIG" fights. . . The big fights, we're luck to get a +250/-300 type deal. . .
