What is the highest Bowe could be ranked?

his resume is mediocre but better than some give him credit for

 

Unshamefully.

 

1) On an atg list? Probably top 20.
2) The highest I personally could rank him based on his accomplishments would be top 15...
3) While I have him pretty low on my HW atg list, I rate '91-'95 Bowe very highly h2h...I see him beating almost every HW except '97 Lewis, '00 Vitali, '67 Ali and possibly '73 Foreman.

 

see, it's tough for me to do that. schmeling may have the single greatest heavyweight win of all time. his resume is solid but the louis win puts him in a class above.

patterson is interesting and bowe may have an argument to be ranked ahead. i personally like patterson post title better, spotty record aside

 

Bowe was a big underachiever. Shame,as he had the potential to be rated ATG top 10,easily.

 

He's beaten every man he faced and is 2-1 against a great HW. The depth of his resume is weak, but still on par with some borderline top10 fighters. His longevity isn't too good but still on par with the likes of Marciano and Frazier. He could arguably be rated above any of the following:

Holyfield: H2H beat him
Tyson: pretty tenuous but he did better against Holyfield
Dempsey: Better resume, better era, more dominant
Marciano: Both beat every man they faced, Bowe has the better best win, most would pick Bowe H2H
Wills: Better best win, more dominant, better era
Foreman: More dominant, less embarrassing losses
Frazier: More dominant, less embarrassing losses
Jeffries: Better Era
Johnson: Better era
Liston/Patterson/Tunney: little explanation needed

Peak for peak you could easily argue him number 1 I think. A guy that big who can mix it up inside against a prime holy and come off on top is a great talent.

Had he defended against lewis and won one more round against holy in the rematch he'd probably be in my top ten.

As it is I think he's somewhere in the top 30, just not sure where.

 

There again,Frazier and Foreman beat better fighters than Bowe did. Not that I'm in any way denigrating Holyfield.

 

I don't think Foreman beating Frazier is better than Bowe beating Holyfield. Aside from that and Norton Foreman's resume is weak

Frazier beating Ali is 1 of the best ever but he loses marks for being taken out so easily by Foreman twice. Aside from Ali, Frazier's wins aren't too inspiring.

Either could be argued above Bowe, but there's certainly little in it in my view. Bowe may well beat both of them too, but get totally schooled by Ali

 

I have him in the top 12-20 bracket, top 5 H2H.

Bowe could have been truly exceptional, such a shame he didnt fufill his potential :-(

 

I could see why he would be ranked very high, I could see why he would be left out of the top 10 as well.

6'5" with an 81" reach and a solid 235-240 Lbs. at his best. He went 43-1 (33) 1NC overall, 5-1 (4) in HW World Title fights (counting the WBO), and he was never stopped.

Tunney, Marciano, and Bowe are the only Lineal HW Champs who were never stopped. Valuev (WBA) and Ibragimov (WBO) were never stopped either but they were not Lineal HW Champs. He was only down vs. Holyfield and Golota... he also knocked them down.

He went 2-1 (1) vs. Holyfield and that means a lot. He struggled with Tubbs W10 and Golota x2 WDQ7 and WDQ9 but in the end he went 3-0 vs. them.

He also beat Thomas KO8, Cooper KO2, Biggs KO8, Seldon KO1, Coetzer KO7, Dokes KO1, Ferguson KO2, Donald W12, Hide KO6, and Gonzalez KO6 among others.

 

Basing this on the best version of Bowe/Riddick Bowe on how best night (which for me is the way you have to do it) then very high - higher than Holyfield because in fight one he beat the best Holyfield I seen - can't remember off hand (as am at work at the moment) but think that put him somewhere in the region of 13th/14th on my own list I think or there abouts

 

I think he could sneak into the top 20 but just barely. He lacked fortitude, longevity and depth of resume.

Outside of the Holy trilogy, his resume is largely ****. He went life and death "Coke and Donut" Tubbs and the fairly pedestrian Coetzer frustrated him so much he resorted to low blows to get him out of there. Beyond that, you would have to convince that Hide or Seldon were something special... and you are not going to do that.
