I am having a problem syncing my hips/lower body with my punches. Basically my right cross is still mostly an arm punch. It's just my arm speed moves so much faster than my base. Any ideas how to fix this? Specific drills? I know when I throw my punches at 75% speed, I get my body into them... So I guess I just have to slow it down. I do a lot of shadow boxing, bag work, sparring etc. but this problem still remains.

Probably because the Ears are not in the position they should Be. Making your Feel, all wrong.

Do lots of punch simulating drills making sure you pivot your body into it. E.g. medicine ball throws, putting a barbell (with no weight on it) on your shoulders behind your neck and doing twists, but actually pivoting into it properly etc. Make sure you do it properly and then speed up and throw more power into it.

Yea happens when you are just starting the sport.. do what i did a drill which really helped. As you said, your hands are lightning fast so you base cant keep up with it and since you got Roy Jones hands you must have Usain Bolt legs. First go 10 minutes jog to warm up and stretch well, find a traffic lights pole and do this:

    10 Lowkicks
    10 Roundhouse
    10 High kicks

    3 Sets

These kicks are really easy and work miracles, you will condition all your legs and hips in no time, it is a bit painful but you know what they say! No pain no gain!

:think I never did any type of kicking sport b4 except when I played soccer with my friends, but doing these really work well for your hips and punching?

My friend told me he did Muy Thai and it helped him use his helps better while punching

Lowkicks are very very easy to learn especially on a metal pole cause at first you'll be hitting it hard and it will hurt but after sometime kicking the living christ out of it you won't feel your legs anymore which is good. Search on Expert Village on youtube on how to do a roundhouse and high kick, they say they have got the best instructional videos on youtube

The Biomechanics of driving the Hips when Punching, are determined by the Tensor Faciae Latae. The whole of the Posterior Chain works of it, understanding its Biomechanics, helps to understand what is Happening as regards the Ears. :good

So, where should the ears be? And what if you have no ears?

Directly above the TFL, without ears your balance would be like, what comes out of you 1 inch below your centre of Gravity, your Coxxys.

Stay on your toes without letting your heels touch the ground, and make sure to pivot your foot before initiating any other part of the movement in the punch. Feet, then hips, then shoulders, then the arm extended. Do it slowly if you need to get the technique down, and then make it snappier as you practice.

That is spot on. Take your time and build from the ground up.

Scrap, can you break that down a little bit? Are you suggesting it's a balance issue? Stance issue?

FTR I have been boxing for a few years. I have several fights. Not an Open fighter yet, but this is a issue even Open level fighters struggle with occasionally during bouts too.
