i dont. he lost the title to norton in 1976. norton was the champion for me from 1976 to 1978

 

I don't look into the number of times a guy has been a champ. All that shows is that you can't hold onto the belt.

 

By your theory some would say Louis lost his title to Walcott, Holmes to Witherspoon, possibly even stretch it to Tyson not losing his to Douglas.

Its in the record books that Ali officially beat Norton.

Do you consider Axel Schultz as a former heavyweight champ, by your logic many should.

 

Spinks got the WBC Title stripped from him for fighting Ali.

Ali won the WBA title from Spinks....not the universal title.

So, Ali universal Champ from Liston & Foreman.....and WBA Champ from Spinks.

 

He was three time champion, yes, but it's no big deal. Beating Spinks 1st time and retiring as a two-time champ would have been more impressive.

I agree. Losing to Spinks, a 'contender' with half a dozen fights is downright embarrassing, and makes Ali's legacy look worse.

All of Ali's fights after Manilla are irrelevant sideshows IMHO.

For the sake of his legacy, Ali should have retired straight after Frazier III, and never stepped into a boxing ring again. That was the last serious legacy fight for Ali, and the last time we saw Ali as a great fighter.

Quitting after Foreman would be best for Ali's health. I wonder what condition Ali would be in health wise today, if he had quit after Zaire?

His fight vs Foreman is a NC 4 me so he didn't win back his title in d 2nd time . His 2 circus shows vs Liston r still undecided in their legitimacy , at least 4 me . 3rd time ? there never was a 2nd . Actually 4 his 2 performances vs Doug Jones & Henry Cooper he shouldn't have been granted his 1st title shot , and 4 not rematching Chuvalo immediately he should have been stripped of d title he didn't deserve in 1st place .
And since that 4 most he lost Norton #3 then he didn't regain it a 3rd time even if supposing that he really was d champion then .

D championship means **** in this sport . Duckings of all sorts of excuses , allowed foul technique , cheats of all sorts , i probably forgot more .
y should i care about a champion who doesn't fight other races than his own ? and those who won it from him ? they didn't win it from d best . y should i care about a champion who got saved by his torn glove ? a champion saved by d judges , or even worse , by d ref ?
loose ropes , rushing d opponent with no time 2 prepare , draining d opponent . 1 needs 2 know d history if he wants 2 know who was d best @ 1 point in it .

Except there's no way Jack Sharkey deserved to win by TKO with that low blow.
You MIGHT be able to say it stays vacant until they fight again, and then Schmeling beats Sharkey, Baer wins champship straight off Schmeling, loses to Braddock etc.
