For me, I think he should have called it quits after The Thrilla but I don't understand why he truly did not retire after the third Norton. What else did he have to prove? He had beaten his rivals in both rubber matches (Frazier and Norton) Were his pals just trying to squeeze him for money while he bullshitted his way through sub par contenders or was he truly just waiting an up and comer in one last super fight?

He beat Jimmy Young and Earnie Shavers. Worthy additions.

Im still waiting for Ali to hit Jimmy Young with a punch. :bbb

I do think that if the decision had been correct in Norton 3 maybe Ali retires a couple years sooner. That is speculation but If the boxing powers wanted to keep Ali around a little longer for the $ he generated or because of the 3 years that he lost it only ended up hurting his health in the long run.

Had Norton held the crown Ali mightve fought him once more but I think he knew that Norton was his kryptonite. Even closer to his prime its a close fight.

Ego and an addiction to the limelight made Ali carry on.

No ****ing way Jimmy Young won that fight. Round by round scorecard from people who disagree.

After the Ken Norton III bout,,,,,,,,,,,

The stink that was in the air,,,,,,,,,it was time to go away.

It only 'confirmed' what everybody in boxing knew.

Nobody is going to get a 'fair' decision from the judges when fighing Muhammad Ali.

Was Ali Norton 3 really that egregious? It was a bad decision but not robbery at gunpoint. Really Ali's run post Thrilla is no worse than Paulie Ayala's run in the late 90's and Ayala wasn't exactly the face of boxing.

I'd love to see one of you're score cards that has Ali beating Young. I'm also on the edge of my seat waiting for one of clays punches to land on Jimmy

    Round 1: 10-9 Jimmy Young

    Rounds 2-15: 10-10

    Result: 150-149 Young

Although I admit I'm not certain about round 1. You could score it a draw due to a lack of action.

It's a terrible fight. But I disagree on round 15. Ali was actually taking a nap at that point. And still Young was tentative.

We'll have a laugh, but nothing could possibly top Ray Leonard's "fake eye injury".Only just got the chance to read that thread.
