Sven Ottke - an Underrated Genius

OK, he certainly wasn't the best boxer ever, at all.

But the guy was a genius. He only fought in Germany, his own country, so he always had the protection of the referee and the judges.

That, along with his style of "running" and just staying alive until he wins on points (which he always does), while dodging those who may be able to KO him (Calzaghe, Kessler, etc.) made him the ultimate survivor.

He was a champion and, lucky or not, he actually knocked some guys out (6 of his 34 victories, lol). His record was perfect. He was a genius in the sense, that he understood how to abuse the sport of boxing without actually being a good boxer.

He wasn't as much as a boxing fighter as he was a boxing genius. While some consider his career absolutely disgraceful, I think we should consider it a stroke of a genius in an otherwise very repetive sport :) He brought originality to the game. He was THE hustler of boxing.

I will never forget how that POS knocked out Mundine.

Mundine looked good for like 7-8 rounds and then the feater-fisted ATG Sven 'The Phantom' OttG knocked him out cold with a single shoulder punch.

Mads Larsen should have got the nod.

That, in my eyes, contributed further to the pure humoristic aspect of Ottke's career. Me and a friend were high yesterday and we decided to watch some Sven Ottke matches and we almost cried laughing. Seriously, the guy got an awesome career  Pure comedy gold.

Mads Larsen was the better boxer, no doubt. But the key to defeating Sven Ottke is to knock him out. It can't be done in any other way, at least not in Germany, which he denies to fight outside of.

Mads Larsen said that Sven Ottke should have been a marathon runner instead of a boxer, lol. I'm Danish, I can follow the interviews of Danish fighters :D

That was most likely true, yes.

I remember that comment yes. Lol

    Mads Larsen:

    Robbed against Ottke

Loses on cut from a headbutt against a British Journeyman.

Robbed in the Junior Amateur Euros in Turkey against a local fighter. Judges got suspended afterwards.

Lost twice on injuries in the amateurs.

Apparently Magee is the only one to win without controversy against him.

Well, Magee is a good fighter, he won fair and square. He also beat Rudy Markussen recently, another Danish boxer who have a lot of hype here in Denmark. Magee is called "danskerdræberen" here, meaning "the Dane killer".

EDIT: You probably know all that, I first noticed that you were Danish now, lol.

Sven Ottke's bumhunting expedition through the dark tunnels of C- level fighters made for a great careeer. It's great for him that he was able to pick up a few good paydays while defended his belts a la Lucien Bute (Although to be fair bute is fighting Froche in nottingham so good stuff to him). but to Ottke I salute the guy for picking up easy fights, although to only knock out 6 out of 34 opponents means he must have been packing some serious pillowhands. :admin:admin:admin

Yes I do know. I never said Magee was bad either. Just noted that he is the only one that has defeated Larsen without controversy, pro or amateur.

    Yes, im also Danish :p

I called the Magee TKO on Markussen btw.

I can't stand Ottke.. His career is a complete joke and shouldn't be honored in anyway..
Ottke doesn't have a legacy imo..

Ottke was never an offensive kind of boxer, haha. He probably didn't hit very hard, no :rofl

He never fought guys who were too great, never fought outside of Germany and he always fought defensively (in a very awkward way) to stall out time.
