12 rounds on June 16 in Macau for something called the WBO International title (yet another meaningless trinket for Welliver to add to his pretty large collection). Whatever happened to the Oliver McCall fight then? I'm assuming this is a warm up for a fight with the winner of Mitchell/Witherspoon :think To be fair, Zumbano Love is one of Chauncy's better opponents, he's 32-5-1 though the 32 wins have all come against rubbish. He's lost to every half decent fighter he's faced (Marcelo Luiz Nascimento, Gbenka Oloukun), but he seems durable and has only been stopped once and that was six years ago (not that there is any chance of Chauncy winning by stoppage anyway). A step in the right direction I suppose...:think
Chauncy was on OTR Boxing show, and he mentioned that he was going to have a big fight next, over in New Zealand. This is rubbish, the record looks okay but Zumbano offers no threat at all. Chauncy, I know you read these forums. We've had decent chats with eachother about game plans etc, but listen to me pal, you need to fight someone with a little bit of name recognition. If you do have to take a lower level fight, don't flap your mouth saying you have something big lined up, it feels like you're taking people around in circles. You're a great guy, but you're pissing your career against the wall here. If you want success go and ****ing get it. Now or never.
Chauncy maintains he's got Seth Mitchell committed provided Mitchell beats Witherspoon, and most people see him putting Chazz to sleep. Some of these belts are absolute bull**** as you've stated.
:deal Agreed. Whilst Chauncy is a nice guy, how hard can it be to get someone with a pulse into the ring with him? Surely a renowned high-level journeyman, someone like Michael Sprott, wouldn't turn down a Chauncy fight. I mean, 53 wins and Chauncy still has yet to beat a top 100 fighter. When someone like Zumbano Love is among your stronger opponents you do need to start questioning whether you really have the desire to make it to the top level. If Chaunsy does end up getting a Vitali fight, does he really think guys like this are adequate preparation for someone of Vitali's caliber?
I said to him, that he should look at Britain. There's Sprott yeah, the man I suggested was Sam Sexton. Chauncy won't get any better by fighting C class fighters at this point, he's fought over 50 of them. He probably learned more in his fight with Solis than he has in those 50 wins. He's not young either, he needs to dare himself, and put his foot on the damn throttle. I'll tell him that, or MesserStick or whoever the hell else. atsch
I hope so but I'm not holding my breath. The WBO International title is a new one, I think they may have created it just for Chauncy, the WBO have an inter-continental belt as well as a whole bunch of regional titles, but the International title is a new one I think, Boxrec has no previous record of it anyway.
The Sprott fight makes perfect sense, he's just had a fight in his home town cancelled, I'm sure he would jump at the chance to fight a guy ranked by multiple organisations. Seriously Chauncy, don't count on your verbal agreement with Seth Mitchell, I guarantee Mitchell will find some way out of that one. Sprott is on Facebook, go on there and call him out, he would jump at the chance I'm sure. This is a guy who only lost by a couple of rounds to Dimitrenko, he's a very respected journeyman :thumbsup
Its hard to fight top guy when nobody will fight you! Chancey is a good guy and is just staying busy all the time until somebody will be forced to fight him. Hope the mitchell fight happens tho
Like I've already said, I find it impossible to believe that no-one in the top 100 will fight Chauncy. Sprott, Gavern, McDermott, Bidenko - I can't see these guys turning down a Chauncy fight.
According to BR this guy is top100 (just), so if he wins it would be his biggest victory on paper. :!:
Zumbano Love is one of his better opponents, yes. But Brazilians are horribly over-rated on Boxrec in general, the standard of boxing over there is so bad that any bum can pick up over 30 wins quite easily. Quite a lot of Brazilian fighters have completely falsified records, so there are fights on there that never actually happened. I wouldn't be surprised if there were several inaccuracies and falsifications on his record. He has loads of wins but he's been shut out by the likes of Oloukun who is basically a journeyman. So not a good opponent, but not bad by Chauncy's dreadful standards to date.
Money is always a factor as well Z. And while I agree Sprott would be a career defining win for Chauncey, I disagree that Gavern, McNuggett, Bydenko or Gavern are better wins than Zumbano, Tuaoso, Mensah or whichever Clevel opponent Chuancey or Arreola, or Boystov has beaten. A Clevel guy is just that. Can't quite crack it at the higher level. Gavern and Bydenko have beaten other Clevel guys, but have lost to every Blevel guy they fought, just like Zumbano. The difference between guys like Zumbano or Gavern or Pucheta and other Clevel guys like Olukun is that some get used more than others for sparring, are more agreeable to take fights on short notice, for less money. More willing to travel....I guess that's the definition of journeyman. Some journeymen just refuse to accept that lot in life, while others readily embrace it, and every now and then, that active tough journeyman will catch a break and get a decision, or catch a pretender on cruise and KO him. Just look at Dingaling Man. He's a solid tough journeyman. He finds a niche with Universum, and he gets some decent fights. He beats Gomez in a fight most thought he lost, but some could find a way to give it to him. He jumps up the rankings to like #24 in the world with the SD win. Suddenly, he's one of the more prized journeyman, getting 3 consecutive paydays for that win. Would a win over Ding be better for Chauncey. Likely no, considering he's been licked 3 times consecutive following his surprise win. So my main beef with other fightfans is their reluctance to call out their own favs who have similar LOC, yet somehow are hoisted into mainstream as some sort or worldbeaters....Arreola for instance. And we all know Chauncey has called out Mitchell, Arreola, the K2, Fury etc......let's see who these guys are fighting before we criticize Chauncey for not getting them in his next fight.:-(
