Yep. Some fighters go to the Olympics at an older age, and still only earn bronze. Some sniff coke and wait until a fighters prime is over, and then fight them.

Actually, ******, if you go through my post history you'll find it's quite the opposite. Tyson was a big part of my early interest in boxing and I have nothing but love for the dude.

Tillman doesn't get enough respect, IMO. He had a gold medal, FFS. He beat a green Tyson under a rule-set that didn't best favor his attributes, true - but he still beat him. Twice. When Tyson was in the full beastly flower of his youth.

Sure, Tillman wasn't successful as a pro (especially once he moved up in weight) but that's no reason to discredit what a good amateur he was.

Writing off those wins as "robberies" or making lame excuses saying that Tyson was too inexperienced and didn't know how to fight yet - let alone that he was making his rapid ascent and knocking mother****ers spark out as a pro a very short time later - is bull****. Tyson had already built up a fearsome reputation in the juniors and was expected by many to bomb Tillman out and gain an easy berth in the Olympics. The beanpole boxed to game plan and other than getting dropped (which doesn't carry the same drastic scoring implications as in the pros) was able to control Tyson very well. A skilled, focused, strong young Tyson.

Now wipe off your shoes and watch where you step next time, son.

Go to the "search this forum" button at the top right corner of the forum page view, and click "Advanced Search".

Put a keyword in the keyword field (ie "Tyson") and then put someone's username in the username field (ie "IntentionalButt")

You'll find a whole lot of positive posts on Mike and defenses against haters from me over the years.

It isn't hating on the guy to recognize that he didn't deserve to go to the Olympics, because Tillman was the better man. (in that sport...pro boxing is a completely different sport from amateur boxing, as their third meeting eventually proved)

    It isn't scored like that.

Tyson won the first round, but he didn't get the two point swing because 10-8 rounds don't exist in amateur boxing.

Tyson won the first round. Tillman won 2 and 3. So Henry won the fight.

In the pros it would be scored a 28-28 draw, but it's a different sport. Different rules.
