Chad Dawson: Improves to 7-1 against top-five opponents

Yes, three of those guys were old, but he's not the one who ranked them in the top five. Dawson has accomplished what few fighters of his era can claim: Dominance against the most celebrated opponents in his division.

His last seven fights (not including Hopkins I) have come against someone in the top five. Four against Tarver and Johnson combined, then one against Hopkins, Pascal and Diaconu.

I understand why people aren't big fans. But for a guy who's still in his 20s, that's one hellacious resume. Congrats to Chad, who hopefully will continue fighting elites in 2012/13. First things first, he needs to avenge Pascal.

 

Number 10 p4p on my list

 

It is not the results, but how he performs that counts. After I saw him give Adamek a boxing lesson, I expected him to dominate the world. Silly me!

 

He's very good. Got all the tools and tons of talent. I still saw minor mental lapses against an aged and fairly inactive Hopkins. But overall he seems to be getting good motivation out of his trainer.

 

He has fought a lot of guys it's difficult to look good against. You don't steamroll Hopkins, Tarver or Johnson. He looked great against Adamek and terrible against Pascal, no doubt, but I'd say he has looked pretty good against some tough people. The only controversial win was Johnson I.

 

Despite his resume, i still think he isn't fighting up to his potential. I guess that's how good he is. No doubt he has mental lapses for stretches. He should've never lost to Pascal. He should've taken out the much smaller Diacuno. I don't think the light will ever come on. He lacks the desire of a champion like Bradley and Ward.

 

Dawson can amass a hall of fame resume over the next few years if he can maintain his focus and fire and continue to fight top-shelf opposition. But that'll be difficult as he's been somewhat inconsistent.

You also have to consider that he'd have moved up his timeline had Diaconu not pulled out of their first fight with injury, and if the first Hopkins fight had gone into the books.

He has probably 3-4 more years at his peak, and during that time he can get into some big events and make a ton of money.

 

His resume is great, I think people are frustrated with his fights that aren't as pleasing to the eye as people would hope for... and are frustrated with the advantages it seems Dawson doesn't does not capitalize or exploit in the ring.. that's what I think Others feel... but regardless I think he is a very good fighter who might not ever live up to others' standards performance wise (I don't think he will ever have that "on" switch to be honest).. so he has to be careful when he fights a smart, skillful, athletic fighter who could possibly outskill him, like a Ward or Bute...

If Dawson keeps winning though, his resume will definitely be more appreciated after he retires then while he is still fighting I think... let's see how he fairs against Ward.

 

He's featherfisted. Mostly because he's a converted southpaw. Thats the only reason his fights arent exciting. He puts together great combination. Hell he's the first guy I've seen land a combo on Hopkins since he fought Roy. Its just that he couldnt crack and egg.

 

The only young guy with experience he fought he lost to and now doesn't want the rematch. Going after smaller Ward, Dawson is a joke. His mental lapses and lack of power is all I see. when challenged he tends to stop fighting like he did in rounds 3, 4, 5, and 6 last night. He needs to fight Pascal, that's the only fight I would like to see him fight right now and will make it a point to avoid his fight if he avoids Pascal.

 

Dawson is very skilled and can fight. Dawson is top 10 p4p fighter.

 

He beat Hopkins conclusively. I was impressed with how one sided it was and how soon the fight reached the point where Hop needed a KO to win. It's funny seeing a challenger for a Ring magazine title going in as a 3/1 favourite and following through by winning as emphatically

 

He's a good fighter. Unfortunately, his fights are boring and he isn't a big draw. He needs a dancing partner that brings a lot of money to the table, someone like Froch, Ward, Bute or even a Kessler; the only problem being is that they're all smaller than him.
