Paulie "le mani di pietra" Malignaggi.

He did something that neither Pac nor Floyd have done. Gone to the lion's den and brutally smashed a prime, undefeated fighter in his backyard.

Lets wait until he fights a proven commodity at welter before we get too carried away!

It was a great win over a solid undefeated fighter, but Senchenko had fought no one note worthy

Senchenko was WBA champ, many defences, unbeaten, in his backyard. Ranked highly by the RING too.

Paulie toyed with him and ruined his face.

This was his 4th defense, not many in my book!

The alphabet soup don't mean ****, Ring had him at 6 but the division is top heavy & pretty weak once you get past the top 4-5.

Paulie was his toughest opponent to date!

I haven't seen the fight, and I know everyone is complimenting Paulie for his aggression, but-

Any chance that happened from a head butt? It sure looks like it.

Watching just the 9th round, Pauli only threw 4 rights. One missed, one was a light tap to the body, and the other two were almost friendly taps to the head. I didn't see any indication that he was throwing bombs earlier on.

Exactly & thank you. So again lets not get carried away!

Just because you outline the facts doesn't make you a hater! I stated in other threads that I hoped Malignaggi would win. I admit I thought he would lose.

I said it was a great win (that doesn't sound like a hater to me)

It was a great performance, but I want to see him in against a proven contender before I get excited

I watched the whole fight and I don't remember seeing any headbutts at all. Paulie did this with his hands

No chance whatsoever, as there were no headbutts and it was a clean fight contested mostly from range.

May be best not to comment without having seen.

I guess Senchenko's skin and heart are both even weaker than eggshells, then.

People really need to STFU about the stoppage if they haven't seen everything that led up to it. Honestly the OP is a bit of a dumbass for just posting the 9th round out of context.

It wasn't that kind of KO where it's worth posting the very end by itself as though it were highlight-reel worthy.

So, stupid move by Tomato Can and even more stupid for anyone else to give an uninformed opinion on the merits of the TKO.

Not ONE person watching the fight live claimed it was even remotely premature. It made perfect sense if you'd been seeing the events play out from the beginning to the end. There was not a single "boo" or "harumph" from the Ukrainians in the crowd, who were mostly just concerned for the well-being of their hometown hero.

It was VERY NEARLY stopped after the conclusion of the 8th, as they had a long close look at the cuts & swelling on Senchenko's face. Smoger wanted to stop it right then and there, but had to defer to the doctor (probably a Ukrainian) who gave Senchenko another chance to go out there. Once he went out there, Malignaggi resumed whipping him and targeting his sundered flesh - ultimately leaving SS no choice.

Now, this surprises me. You're usually pretty solid in appraising the action.

How was it early? Malignaggi had already completely spoiled Senchenko's vanilla style of conventional orthodox boxing. Senchenko had already thrown his game plan out the window and started chucking desperate bombs. That didn't work, and he kept getting zapped with fast counter punches he couldn't see coming (and he wasn't even seeing them before his eyes swole up) and having his grill flayed off.

He was backing up and started to drop his hands with a defeated facial expression & body language, and Malignaggi kept opening up on him with increasingly faster and harder shots. Smoger absolutely made the RIGHT call, and waiting any longer would have not only been the wrong call but would have severely jeopardized Senchenko's health.

Not every stoppage has to be "to save a guy from getting KTFO cold". Prolonged one-sided accumulations can be just as bad as one punch rendering someone unconscious.

This was a clean TKO, and not a moment too soon. :deal

Nobody goes from being a featherfisted joke of a fighter at 140 to KOing beasts at 147. Paulie is on the juice.
