is there a special temperament that draws guys to cage fighting over boxing?

Are MMA fighters cut from a different bolt of cloth than boxers?

Usually its wrestlers/Brazillian jiu jitsu grapplers who go to MMA. There is no money in amateur wrestling or BJJ but there is in MMA so they make the switch

Starting age and am experience are not frowned upon in mma as opposed to boxing. Just a thought.

    socioeconomic status

many guys in mma are college educated, middle class white guys. You even have some earning good salaries that want to get into it.

boxing's participants are often dirt poor, working class, lower middle class, or from the ghetto

No, their not. Circumstance and taste has just lead them to channel their fighters mentality into MMA rather than Boxing.

It comes down to circumstance, and personal choice; but I'd argue strongly that the core attributes are exactly the same.

I can assure you that MMA fighters know how to fight. They might not be the best stand-up guys with their fists (and some may have downright terrible boxing skills), but they can snap your **** up, break your bones, choke you out, punish your legs with kicks, and put you to sleep with kicks as well. They're dangerous.

In all honesty I think MMA guys are just boxing fans who didnt or couldnt get the opportunity to box when they were younger .

Try starting up in boxing at 22. Its not easy , more chance of doing well at MMA and developing in a sport where technical ability maybe isnt as structured.

I dont think so. I think it's just a preference. there are temeperaments boxers have that I could easily see translating, and vice versa.

I can fight a Boxing match.

    I can't fight MMA.

I'm good at my discipline, and MMA fighters are good at theirs. So I respect them,
