Why do we have so many crap undercards these days?

We are all happy with 1 decent undercard fight these days although it has picked up on some US cards over the past year or so, the past 4-5 years have been shite. This often happens on PPV's as well.

Is it because the main man is getting so much they cant afford another decent fight?
Is it because many will tune in just for one fighter that they don't bother with another decent matchup?
Surely the chance that the main event will be a stinker and the opportunity to market another fighter should be incentive?

Ok we see some decent fighters on undercards but how many good matchups? Hardly any and often we'll only get it if the main is weak such as Alvarez cards. Remember Froch's cards in the Super 6? Even the Bute bill is looking weak and don't get me started on Haye bills. I think this cannot be helping boxing, often if one undercard fight is great then casuals remember or gain an interest if the main sucks but this doesn't seem to be happening.

Good, competitive, relevant undercard matchups - where are they?

    Why?

    It saves Promoters money.

    Its where boxing goes wrong.
Genuine 50 50 matches are few and far between

I understand a prospect needs to fight different styles against fighters of a lower skillset but surely promoters can put two evenly matched fighters in against one another now and again???

I think this may be a major part of it.

The main fight sells the tickets.

They can get away with it.

Because there 'has' to be 10 fights on a big card, including at least four local lads padding out their unbeaten records with a 4x3 against an 8-108 journeyman. Scrap them and put the purse money towards less but better quality fights.

I'm never happy with boxing cards. A card should be at least 5 deep. Undercards can be lower level fighters but it is good fights, intriguing fights etc that we want.

I hate seeing guys turn up to lose!

Whats the point of giving a prospect Latvian journeyman to take out in 1 minute?

Look at David Price, he probs could've fought Dallas in his fifth fight.

look at when they stuck Paul Allison in with Eubank Jr. a lot of casuals in Belfast were talking about tough Allison was because he gave it a good go. an unbeaten but somewhat limited fighter with a bit of ambition is not a bad thing to put up against a prospect every now and again

I've been at a few Maloney shows with his bumper 12 fight bill consisting of East Europe's finest scaffolders and a few African cleaners. Who last a combined 8 rounds and then a decent chief support and main event.

The amount of people buying Mayweather/Cotto who don't care about the 2 main fights but do want to watch Vargas, Forbes, Latimore or Quintana could probably be counted on one hand, that's why. What's the point in them spending more on better fights when it hardly affects the PPV buy rate?
