A casual fan can follow the sport for about 20 years without being a hardcore boxing fan. Guys who watched Tyson tear up the HW scene in the 80s can be the same ones watching Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao fight today.

If you are more than a casual fan as you contend then surely you should know that historically celebrated fighters from lower weight classes that can provide a quality payday are always going to be called out by other fighters a division or two north of them. Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De la Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez, Manny Pacquaio, Shane Mosley are recent examples.

Sergio Martinez is even calling out Floyd Mayweather. Pascal and Cloud currently have obligations from what I understand. Erdei is of course a non-factor. It would be great to unify the belts @ 175. But in lieu of that I'm happy with a great fighter over quality opponent.

Considering how formidable Tarver, Johnson and Hopkins appeared in those fights it was pretty clear that despite facing some older competition they were still pretty decent fighters at that stage. He's had a tough schedule. He wants a big money fight against a top p4p fighter. Nobody at 175 apart from Dawson himself ranks as a top 10 p4p fighter today.

Would it be good if he fought other LHW's? Yes. But the alternative he's proposed is actually better than any fight he can make right now at LHW.

It's called Prize-Fighting for a reason..... boxers want to cash in when they get to the top. Dawson will make more money fighting Ward, Bute, or any of the other top super-middleweights than he will fighting anyone in the dried up light-heavyweight division.

I won't go as far as Lacyace but I do understand him and anybody who wouldn't hate Hop or was reasonably unbiased could have a second thought. And in my opinion, the thang is not calling a SMW cause Andre is a young, super-smart, cagey and absolutely masterful fresh version of a wise Hopkins but I am mostly upset with the board, that's what I wanted to say. Maybe Chad won by a couple of rounds but stupid asses here scoring it 120-108 and 10 rounds to 2 clearly. Man, I gat to tell you...

after a rematch with Pascal their aint much left for Chad...he has cleaned out 175, Maybe Cloud....Ward has been talking about moving up for a while now...i would pay to watch two prime guys the best at their respective weights...the thread poster is a MMA fan who probably just started watching boxing 2 years ago....better than watching grown men roll around a mat and quit every fight or cant take a punch, and this is coming from a guy(me) who wrestled in high school...MMA is hell of boring

Well I thought Dawson won too but he definetly didn't win by hugh margin like that.

 

OP is a tool.......... What's wrong with Ward? The fact that he is better than every one at 175? It would be a lot better than Dawson facing a possible mandatory in Kessler or Green.... plus Pascal and Cloud are not available.. both are fighting in August.. and Erdei is always inactive

Chad clearly won the fight. That judge who had it a draw was a ****ing idiot. Dawson went out did what he was supposed to do, but dirty ass Hopkins makes it impossible for fighters to look good against him.

I don't understand your hate for the guy. He likes to fight, he is a humble guy and is willing to take on anyone. That's the perfect fighter.
