How much did shot Marquez' thrashing of Pacquiao detract from Pac vs May?

Marquez is the better boxer imo, but head to head, Mayweather length and style would make it difficult for a counterpuncher who's not as quick or fast as he is.

Mayweather is really not a runner, so I think Marquez can adapt his style and close the quickness and speed disparity that was present when they fought at 147 lbs.

Mayweather also had a huge physical strenghth advantage over Marquez at 147 lbs that would not be present at a matchup at 130 lbs.

Not sure tbh, I think the majority of hardcore would still pay to see this just to see them in the ring together.

Marquez isnt shot...he for sure isnt the guy he fought at 126 and 130 all those years ago...honestly i think Marquez won the last fight and landed the cleaner more effective shots...it didnt change a thing for me...I always believed He'd lose to Mayweather regardless of who he beat or lost to...Mayweather has the skills obviously

I think it's disrespectful in the first place to suggest a Marquez victory equals a Floyd victory, as if their styles and strengths were identical and Pacquiao's flaws were the cause of his loss, rather than the ingenuity of his opponent.

Pac's flaws did have something to do with his loss though.

:deal Exactly. The statement was clearly made that Pac or May wont lose on the cards if theres still a possibility of a fight between them happening. It annoys me just to think about it again and to hear Pacquiao and all his idiot fans claiming he clearly won :patsch

That **** wont work with Floyd tho, since he is the bigger PPV draw. :deal

That **** usually happens when your up against the Cash Cow, and aren't much of a draw. Wont be the case here, thats why Arum wants none of it.

Of course, but the accentuation and exploitation of those flaws was something that took ATG skills on Marquez's part, and that focus is loss by people's bias against Manny. People pretend any old boxer/counter-puncher can do it, and that Marquez and Floyd have the same stylistic skillset.

    Well past prime though.

5 years Pacs senior, physical prime only during the first fight with Pac.

Well not really. The thing is the style does not benefit Pac. PBF just has all the advantages. Speed, power, size. Add to that that he is a great counter puncher and you get a PBF victory.

Boxing is not always like that as we know. A punch can change anything but if this fight were to come off I would bet all the cash I had on hand on PBF without a second thought.

Not sure if you've read this thread of mine, but my thoughts on the matter are all here:

My point is that equating Marquez to Mayweather takes away from the skill it took to achieve that victory, as if outboxing Pacquiao were the norm.
