How impressed were you with Hopkin's defense against Dawson?

I would be more inclined to ask,was anyone surprised by Hopkins' defence?
A great defensive boxer will almost always age better than a great offensive boxer.
Was anyone really expecting Hopkins to do anything differently? He fights the way the vast majority of boxers fought in the old days. All about getting as much leverage, whatever it takes.
Chad won convincingly. No one's saying otherwise so why pick apart aspects of a performance that went exactly the way we knew they would?

Dawson has very good hand speed, but mostly only when he is allowed to set his feet and throw. Bernard didn't allow him to do this.

I'm impressed by guys who integrate good defense into their offensive attack. Mayweather is the best current example of this.

Plenty of experienced fighters can survive if that's all they're trying to do. Hopkins did everything he could, legally and illegally, to suppress the action of the fight — including his own offense.

So, no, I wasn't impressed and haven't been anytime he has gone into that mode. Were you guys also impressed by Kevin Johnson's defense against Vitali? Same idea.

most people thought it was a boring fight but I thought it was a good match. Hopkins is an ugly fighter but when you look at his smarts in the ring he can take you out of your game plan he is a cagey fighter. Even at his age he is still a great fighter

His defences was very impressive, in this regard he's still an elite fighter. Even a bigger, taller, faster fighter like Dawson was made to miss repeatedly throughout the fight.

But his offence has become one dimensional. He simply no longer has the same power as before and his offence now is basically his superb counter right hand and very little else. He simply doesn't have the speed, power or work rate that he once had which makes it very difficult to win a fight when, you don't have the power to hurt your opponent or the work rate to win on points.

Dawson showed great composure, many other fighters would have gotten frustrated, especially with the cuts. But he showed he could be patient, stick to a game plan and execute his strategy and not get drawn into his opponents fight, which he has done in the past.

Clinch is a part of boxing, otherwise how would they restart and reset after any sort of offense that failled? I mean, and what's the big deal of making your offense based on a good defense and exploiting your opponent being outa balance or outa position? I don't know why I lose my time talkin with you folks. At the same time Floyd is a great fighter but he punches stepping back, not stepping in with punches and you personally take it against Hopkins cause he makes the most out of the clinches? Most of you expected a TKO and now you're cryin on sour milk, that's what it is!

There is such a double standard with Hopkins ..If John Ruiz or Ricky Hatton grab ,they are called boring or dirty ..When Hopkins does it he's crafty ..
