Holyfield's best fight as heavyweight: Foreman?

I thought he boxed intelligently in the second Bowe fight as well as the Tyson bouts. So no I don't agree.

 

:good I think they both rank above the foreman performance (Tyson II is pretty irrelevant) and he was untouchable in the 2nd moorer fight. You could probably argue a case that Holyfields performance against Valuev was better had the decision gone his way.

 

I think very few would agree on it , i understand y they won't tell it 2 u here , because it's obvious 2 almost every1 , if some1 will agree with u on this , u might get d wrong impression of support 4 this claim , when in fact , d only 1 who agrees posted . I disagree of course . Foreman was 13 yrs older , obese or close 2 it , retired 4 a long while prior 2 his return , and unable 2 rise from a chair and possibly from a KD as well .

 

His best performance by some distance is tyson 1. Tyson 2 was good, mm 2 was good, douglas was good.

He showed good discipline against foreman and bowe, but against tyson he showed great dynamics and had the 96-97 performances occured during his prime years he'd probably be seen as a better h2h fighter than he is today. Certainly by myself atleast.

 

The first Tyson fight is where the Holyfield legend was made in my view, but i did like the fight with Mike Weaver in his heavyweight early days and he should get a bit more credit for the second fight with Lennox Lewis, Lewis was the better man and i think this fight gets under looked !

"Foreman & Tyson" are Holy's best as champion above 200 pounds... The KO over Douglas was great, too... PLUS! His KO rematch of Moorer in '97... Wicked...

agree with the consensus here. i think bowe 2 is in many ways similar to pep/saddler 2. bowe had almost every conceivable advantage going in (except fitness) and holyfield neutralized it with a brilliant gameplan in a fight i thought he clearly won

 

Dokes shouldn't be overlooked here. A withering pace, and I wasn't sure early on if Holyfield would be strong enough to stand up to it. When it was Dokes who finally dropped, Evander had served notice that he'd arrived as a legitimate HW. Yes, Michael had abused drugs before Mel "Red' Greb apparently rescued him before Holyfield, but neither had Dokes lost since Coetzee, a span covering 11 fights going back half a dozen years. At 37-1-2, he had the best record of anybody Evander opposed up to that time. Very possibly the HW fight of the 1980s.

 

You beat me to it. A very important fight for the division and a great litmus test for Holy.

 

He fought a very good fight vs. Foreman. He stuck to his fight plan well and beat a very well prepared and peak Foreman (version 2.0). I think the 2nd fight vs. Bowe and his first fight with Tyson were as good. I disagree with the Moorer rematch though. Moorer gave him fits despite getting dropped 5 times and stopped after 8 rounds. The Dokes win was very good as well. He may have been great vs. Douglas and Tyson (2nd fight) but it's hard to tell because the fights didn't last long.

I was going to say Bowe II, but you make a great point.

That said, I always really enjoy watching the Holyfield v Foreman fight. There was a lot of interesting little dynamics going on in there, plus the event itself was a must-watch.
