According to an ESPN report the two pugilist are not only the highest paid athletes in their respective countries, but they are the two highest paid athletes in the world. They combined to pull in $90M in 2011. Just like their Ring magazine P4P rankings, Pacquiao was no.1($50M) and Mayweather was no.2($40M).

This could be a good or bad thing. If you look at the glass half full, it's good because if they can make that much money fighting other guys, they could possibly make a lot more money fighting eachother. Looking at the glass half empty, why fight eachother when they can make that much money fighting less difficult opposition?

I just read through the list. I completely forgot that David haye and Wlad split 50/50. What a sham. How David Haye pulled that off is beyond me.

Or you can look at it from another business stand point.

Pac made 50 mil in two fights while floyd made 40 mil in one fight. Floyd will make another 40 mil in his next fight, so in two fights floyd will be averaging 80 mil compared to pac's 50 mil in the space of 12 months.

That is a 30 million difference a huge significant figure.

So why is a boxer who is making 25 mil a fight refusing to take a 40 million flat fee from a boxer who makes that same figure per fight.:think

Shouldn't the fighter who is making 25 mil a fight be thankful for such a fee.

Critics will say well because there is more money to be made. Well on the flip side. If the fight isn't made and Pac continues to make 25 mil while floyd continues to make 40 mil, which of the two fighters is financially losing out? It's not mayweather.

In the long run Pac will make more money ( plus endorsements ) because Floyd only fight once a year.

He may generate more money, but the question is how much does he actually make for himself.

I think it's quite simple really. David made the fight personal, and he sold the fight. It's not hard to sell a fight, all you got to do is talk **** and people pay to see you lose. Naseem, floyd, ali, even Jack johnson made their money on being hated fighters that wound up casual boxing fans. There was nowhere left for wladimir to go. It got to a point where Vitali and him were arguing on who to fight Haye first. Fight sold.

I wonder if that 50 mil is what he clears, or if you have to subtract from it the fees for Roach, Ariza, Konckz, Arum, etc...

If that is true, the Phillipine athletes must not get paid very well, considering Pac is getting peanuts compared to Floyd.

    Floyd Mayweather - 1 bout = $40 Million.

    Pacquiao - 2 bouts = $50 Million.

Puts a whole different perspective on the $40 Million offer.....
