After the Khan-Peterson fight, D.C. has a big rep for hometown officiating. Mitchell and his handlers are from that area. Boxing is a small, tight industry: the locals tend to help each other. Happens everywhere in the world.

Remember: Mitchell's promoter and manager have invested (most likely) hundreds of thousands of dollars in advancing Mitchell's career. If Mitchell loses to Chauncy on 6/30, then that investment gets pissed away. The local officials know this, and will not want to let their friends down.

The whole point in boxing, financially, is to invest money in a fighter early, so it all pays off much later when the fighter gets huge fights. But that doesn't happen if the fighter gets exposed (loses).

Upset? I haven't checked the rankings lately, but isn't Chauncy ranked higher the Seth? Seth has quite a hypetrain going right now, but I don't think he has the ring savy to hang with Chauncy. I think Seth will win the first 2-3 round and then after he finds he can't KO Chauncy, he'll get beat on a UD with a possible KD happening some time in near the end due to him being exhausted.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the secret to beating Mitchell is to make him miss his shots. I'm interested in seeing how he reacts against someone with expert head movement.

Sometimes big bombers lose their confidence when they find they can't connect with clean shots.

    Chauncy is WBC no.7, $uper $eth is WBC no.23.

WBO rankings on their website does not work, faulty website.

    Edit -

WBO has $uper $eth at no.6, and Chauncy at no.8.

How do you know this? Aside from the Solis fight, none of us have gotten a good look at Welliver yet. But even in the Solis fight he was fairly effective at dodging blows.

Mitchell reminds me of '70s contender Ron Lyle, physically and stylistically. I'm wondering if Mitchell has Lyle's weaknesses.

I actually think Welliver is quite good at making people miss him. Rarely do they get a complete flush shot. That is kinda why he get props for having a good chin, he hardly ever lets people get a good shot and if they do he reacts approprately and covers up, moves, or fires back. Mitchell freezes up when hit, which is an experience thing. I see this fight being a tough, drawn out war.

Welliver better realize that is his biggest opertunity ever and train like a madman. He has the pedigree and experience to pull him through this and catapult himself to a titleshot.

The Welliver highlights reels don't show him getting hit. That's why they're highlights.

Lyle did a lot of bodypunching, as I recall. I saw lots of his fights live on TV when I was a kid.

I remember Lyle used to get a sulky, defeated look on his face when he found he couldn't land punches. Even if Lyle was winning those fights, he still had a defeated look on his face.

That's what missing punches does to some fighters....it gives them a hopeless, depressed kind of feeling. That can interfere with game plan and effectiveness.

Eh, I wouldn't say expert. I just follow him abit since he is from the Spokane area which is close. I'm giving him a 60/40 chance. He is a much better boxer, but this is HW boxing and Mitchell might land that big punch early. If the fight goes past the 3rd then Mitchell is screwed in my opinion. Anyone know how many rounds this is? 10 or 12?

A guy on one of the other forums, years ago, posted about his experience serving as a Lyle cornerman. The fight was against Lou Bailey in 1973.

Lyle won the fight easily, flooring Bailey multiple times. But in spite of his dominance, Lyle just couldn't seem to get the really clean, meaningful punches in. The crowd sensed this and allegedly booed more and more as the rounds passed.

The guy who wrote the post (the cornerman) said that with each passing round, he could see more and more of a defeated expression on Lyle's face, even though Lyle was winning easily.

That's what I'm talking about...the frustration and loss of self-confidence that can occur if a fighter fails to connect cleanly. That experience can wreak havoc on a boxer's mind.

I thought I noticed Lyle exhibit that same psychological quality against Jimmy Young and Keven Isaacs, when I saw those fights on TV.

If a regional title belt is on the line, and I'm certain several will be, then the bout will be scheduled for 12.
