Biased officiating can play itself out in lots of different ways. Just watch European fights to see what I mean. Consider:

    1. Mitchell gets cut by a punch, and they call it was a headbutt, or an elbow and go for a DQ.
    2. Mitchell stuns Chauncy and puts him on the defensive even though he's not hurt. The ref could jump in and call a TKO.
    3. The fight goes the distance because Welliver fights a tricky, defensive kind of bout. Welliver lands most of the punches, and appears to outjab and frustrate Mitchell. They give all the rounds to Mitchell just because he's moving forward.

These are just 3 of the many, many ways that hometown officiating can play out. Remember: this happens in every boxing venue in the entire world.

I'm not saying Welliver will be robbed...I'm just pointed out that when fighting in the opponent's hometown, there's greater chance of such stuff happening.

I just watched Mitchell-Chazz again. I'm wondering if Chazz simply punched himself out in round 1, throwing so many full force rights, gunning for the KO.

In round 1, Chazz's foot mobility is good, and that's how he eludes bombs (especially body blows) and gets his own rights off. In round 2, the footwork is barely there at all, and he seems to be pushing (and not snapping) his punches. These are signs of an energy drain.

I don't know if I'm reading things correctly here, but I wonder...

I thought the same, if Witherspoon had a better gas tank he would have ko'd Mitchell.

It's hard to tell what happened, because Mitchell does begin to unload the devastating body attack in round 2, particularly starting at the middle of the round.

But even so, for the first half of round 2, I just didn't see the same crispness from Chazz, in his feet and in his punching.

Chazz's foot movement seemed to the cornerstone of his success in round 1, though. That's how he kept Mitchell's jabs, head shots (particularly sweeping hooks) and body blows from hitting him. That put Chazz in a position to land those big rights.

  7. The Fat Dorky White guy (not as fat,not as dorky, not as white anymore) will put up a good fight. He has good stamina and I dont think Seth has gone a full 12 rounds yet. I assume the fight will be a 12 round NABO title fight. But Seth is most likely physically stronger and has the power to make it a brawl. Anyway,I like both guys but I slightly favor Seth.

Did it seem that Mitchell was dead tired at the start of the third round? To me he looked exhausted.

THanks. It's hard to tell though. Is it Mitchell's body attack that slows Chazz...or did Chazz simply exhaust himself? I suspect the latter.

I wonder how many body punches it takes -- from a guy like Mitchell -- to have a decisive, fight changing effect on someone.

    One? three? Five?

    Who knows.

Yeah i was screaming at the television every time he would just stand directly in front of Mitchell. You might be right about the body shots taking some of the pep from his step but i also think Witherspoon is poorly conditioned.

Did you notice how Chazz totally ignored his corner's instructions? They kept telling him not to "stand in front of the buffalo," or something to that effect. But for some reason, he placed himself right in front of Mitchell, stationary, ready to be tagged.

One thing's for sure: if Mitchell can't get what he wants upstairs, or if he has any difficulty at all, his back up plan to to swing like hell with body punches.

Just watched the beginning of the third round, both fighter were breathing heavily but Witherspoon looked the worst out of the two.

To be honest, I didn't really pick up on exhaustion in Mitchell at that point. In the third, he did have pep in his feet, and he was able to put his punches together fluidly in combination to close the show.

However, I did notice that Mitchell seemed to be pushing -- not snapping -- with his left jab in round 3. He didn't do that against his last opponents. Pushing the jab is sometimes evidence of mounting fatigue.

Another time in round 3, I noticed that Mitchell's body tended to ponderously swing, slightly out of control, when he missed with a huge overhand right. That may have been a sign of fatigue. Don't know.

I'd really like to see how Mitchell's gas tank holds out after 5 or 6 rounds.

I was shocked, it was as if he just said screw it and just let Seth tee off on him. You could see by the look on his face that he wanted to quit.
