This is unbelieveable, thread after thread, post after post. It is ludicrous and absolutely irrational to belive that any, ANY, world class, proven fighter has no chance against another, regardless of records, styles, or the trash they talk. I'm a fan of boxing, yes a fan of some fighters more than others, but a fan of boxing first. According to most, why have the damn fight at all? What's the point, it's not worth watching. It will be one sided, it will be a terrible beat down, I mean one guy is going in there with all the preparation in the world, he's superman, batman, iron man, hulk, and wonder woman all rolled into one. And the other one? Poor guy he is not even a real boxer, hasn't trained, is mediocre at best, will step in the ring with one arm tied behind his back, his shoe laces tied together, a patch over one eye, the janitorial staff from the mgm will be his corner, he's overrated, shot, beat down, has no stamina, no chin and no hope. At least that's what one might be lead to believe. The only thing he's got is a 37 and 2 record with two losses being wars, regardless of how he lost. It would behoove Mayweather to knock Cotto out in the first 10 seconds of the first round, otherwise he might be seen as human, not so invincible, or dare I say it , old! Anything less than a total annihilation would be completely unacceptable. Here's the sad part, it's not going to happen, Floyd will not win every round. According to those that know, no one is in Mayweathers class, true that all have lost, yet even though they were so outclassed, most have gone the distance, some green, some past prime, some at their peak. Regardless of the outcome, Cotto will be Mayweathers' toughest challenge. Previous fights mean nothing, who they have beat means nothing. In the end, it's all about what each man brings to the ring on May 5th 2012, any fight before that won't make a difference. Enough nonsense about this being hopeless for Cotto. All anyone can ask for is that each fighter leave it all in the ring, that they go out on their shield, isn't that why we watch to begin with?
I read it...its good to vent, we all need to at times...I usually vent to my EAP or to anyone who will listen while I'm pissy drunk at the pub...cheers!
Wouldn't that be a testament against Floyds greatness. How could anyone as inferior as Cotto last that long?
I read it and it wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. I actually feel you on this. It's annoying to think a top fighter has absolutely no shot at beating another opponent especially one who is a division lower than him. This is boxing and anything can happen. Look at Friday Night Fights last week as a good example
I don't think anyone is trying to disrespect or disregard Miguel Cotto as a fight, but I do think THOSE WHO KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT BOXING understand that Cotto has the odd stacked against him. I respect Cotto, he beats 90% of the guys in Boxing right now, but...he's had the benefit of being preserved by Top Rank with winnable fights (Foreman, Mayorga, Margarito) and Floyd is hands down the most complete fighter he's EVER faced. Cotto is legitimate fighter, but I've always felt like he's a guy that went though a gauntlet of tough fights and those fights took a lot from him. Since then, he seams like a guy trying to rewind time and capture the past, moving in weight and changing trainers three times. The people around Cotto are in denial, this is the beginning of the end for Cotto.
For predictions, you have to take into account various factors. Such as a fighters experience and fight history. How they match up stylistically, physically, and technically. Combine those and you would have to favor Mayweather considerably. You have to look at fighter's fight history and record as a form of credit history. You can detect patterns and anticipate whats to come or gauge how reliable a fighter is. IMO, Mayweather tops Cotto in all those categories. He should be rated higher and favored when they fight.
Understood, I'm not trying to defend Cotto, or attack Mayweather. I'm defending boxing, and the reason we have the fights, if we just went by records, we could just handout victories and not have the fights.
