He clearly just gassed and got caught with some big shots. He set a very high work rate in that fight, throwing power shot after power shot. And even when he wasn't throwing punches he was wrestling with Brewster in the clinches or moving around the ring and basically expending a lot of energy.

These days he averages about 40-45 punches a round unlike in the first Brewster fight where he was throwing about 70 punches a round.

He now fights at a much more sedate pace and so is unlikely to suffer from another case of "poisoning" any time soon.
