You can't compare amateurs with pros. In the amateurs, you have to be able to weight always the same. You'll have something like 4 fights in 2 weeks in a competition. In the pros, you can dehydrate to make weight.

When they start their professional career, boxers sometimes fight in a higher division for the same reason: they fight 4 or 5 times a year, and you can't dehydrate that much often.

Ward is not so big for a SMW. If I remember correctly, Dawson weighed 189 on fight night against Hopkins. I doubt he can fight at 168 now. IMO, if Ward doesn't accept a catch weight, the fight won't happen.

Ward also said many times he would move up. Why wouldn't he do it?

Both promoters will want their fighter to have the edge. Ward and Dawson can say what they want, they are not promoting. If I was Dawson's promoter, no way I would let him go down at 168. I would maybe accept a catch weight of 171 or 172 but nothing below that. With his victory against Hopkins, Dawson is not desperate. He can wait and fight Pascal for a big payday. He can wait for Ward and Bute to come up.

I don't believe one second a Ward-Dawson fight can be made at 168.

Dawson can't make 168. He's a big LHW as it is.

Ward should fight him at 175. Much more credit if he wins. And yes, Chad has weighed at least 191 on fight night before.

I do not think Dawson is serious about 168 imo. He probably has trouble making the 175 limit. Having Dawson fight at 168 would be dangerous for his career and health. @ 168 I think Dawson would be way too drained

However at 175, Dawson would smack Ward around. Dawson is Bigger, Just as skilled, and Wards speed advantage is minimal. I see Dawson using his footwork and range to plaster Ward with fast straight punches, while Ward will have lots of trouble trying to get inside.

Bad fight for Ward to take @ 175, Bad fight for Dawson to take @ 168

Neither fighters are exciting, and both rely on their champion status to make money, its not going to happen :bart

Ward gets zero credit if it happens. Dawson is likely walking around at 200 lbs between camps. There is no way in hell he could make 168 comfortably.

Chad said he could make it. As long as he doesn't look like a zombie come fight night, he should be fine. A tune-up wouldn't be a bad idea. Not every fighter that moves down to fight a smaller man will replicate Pacquiao-De La Hoya.

This, and Ward should fight Bute, much better fight than Dawson-Ward.

*****, get your facts straight.Floyd said he wanted the winner of the rematch between williams martinez .Guess what happened.....Martinez will fight floyd at 154 btw but floyd will duck him and fight people he has no business fighting.Martinez is bad for your health floyd. Floyd vs malignaggi sept 2012 lol

  12. When Dawson went on TV and said "I want Andre Ward, I can make 168," he effectively gave up any chance to bring Ward up. If you were Ward, what would YOU do?

I think Dawson would do whatever it took to go down to 168. He just isn't that big of a draw yet. It would probably be the biggest payday of his career.

I would give edge to Ward at 168 though. Ward will see Chad doesn't deal well with inside fighting. We know what kind of tactics Ward will use. He will push Chad to the ropes head down and smother Chad all night ala Kessler, Abraham. This will be another boo fest and not really good for Chad in the long run. The lure of a big fight might make it happen though.
