http://www.fightsaga.com/news/item/...l-Cotto-Emanuel-Steward-s-Riveting-Revelation I have to concur with the hall of fame trainer!
Here's a video interview with him... http://www.elnuevodia.com/videos-deportes-emanuelstewardveamiguelcottoganando-1620260116001.html
No doubt that Steward knows a lot about the sport, as well as the two combatants in this fight. Simply put, the man knows his ****. I hope he's right, and that this is an action filled, back and forth fight.
I agree with Steward on basically everything he's said so far, but I don't know how he hasn't mentioned Cotto's right improving when he was the one approached by Cotto to get the surgery, and we've seen it come out much more progressively since.
Maybe he's just leaving that out to not draw to much attention to it? You know, not to "let the cat out of the bag." Steward said in the Tony rematch how much Cotto's right had improved since he got the surgery and can punch full force with it now, making him a two handed fighter again. Steward wants to see Cotto, his former charge, win. I can't blame him if I were in his shoes.
Ahhh, good point! I suppose it would be harmful, if not unprofessional, to start emphasizing certain things he knows firsthand will or will not work.
I love him as a commentator he can be so funny sometimes when he gets exited like in Gatti-Ward HE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE BODY! GO BACK TO THE BODY! or Berto Ortiz OH MY GAWDDDD lol
He wants to see him win, but he basically questioned that Cotto could mentally deal with a confident fighter like Floyd, look for Floyd to break Cotto's will in this fight
"Also, I hate to say it, but Floyd's confidence and arrogance will really play to his advantage in this fight. Miguel Cotto doesn't seem to have that strong swagger like Floyd, which I think is necessary to have as a champion in boxing. Floyd walks and talks like an undefeated fighter while Cotto seems a bit more humbled. Confidence is essential in any big fight." I'm glad he brought this up and mentioned its pros in boxing. We have many that blindly nuthug humility.
Haha! Listen man I firmly believe there's no such thing in boxing....one can be "humbled" in a boxing match but the allure fades quickly and that humility turns into a long drawn out plot to exact some sort of vengeance...cotto was humbled by Margo and avoided talking **** but trust me there was nothing humble about his stare down after they stopped the rematch.
It's one of the reason why I never criticized Floyd for stating he is the GOAT. In my opinion, to be the best you really have to believe you are the best. There is nothing wrong with that and I agree that a fighter should have that mentality.
I know what you mean. Some fans take this gentlemanly stuff too far. At the very core people are beating up others for a living.
Right, I can laugh at and disagree with Floyd all I want when making my irrelevant subjective lists on that subject, but if it helps him win his fights, then so be it Floyd, believe in yourself and spout your nonsense. You have to be that way to some extent to get so far.
