Man...you really didn't listen in history class. Know a little bit about the Metis and Louis Riel? What he asks of the federal government? What about the «Official language Act» of 1890? Or about the deal between Canada prime minister Wilfrid Laurier and Manitoba Prime minister Thomas Greenway in 1896? Read about it and come back later...

We are all brothers, and neighbors!

I love all Canadians, province notwithstanding: Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario. . .

I didn't mean to start such a heated debate. . . I really didn't know there was such a strong movement regarding this "separatism" issue. . . I must say I've learned a lot about the issues thanks to the debate sparked here, though. . .

I just hope that if Quebec does become separate, they don't make it more difficult for Americans to come tour . . . Right now, it's quite easy for us to go back, and forth between Canada, and USA. . . ANd I hope Quebec treats it's American neighbors as good friends!

It was easier to go to the states a few years back. Now you need a passport or special driver's licence to go there. US of A got all paranoid after 9/11. Separation wouldn't make movement any harder than it is now anyhow.

It's certainly not your fault. Your question was legit. But tha sad man, who kept his hatred to long inside of him, has derailed your thread. And me too by the same account!

Yup. . . That was Dubya, and his administration's fault :-(

You're right. . I just didn't know if there was more hostility towards Americans in Quebec, than in other parts of Canada.

Sometimes I just feel like we get a bad rap because of some of hte moves of the Bush administration. . . We really are a VERY diverse country (probably the most diverse in the world), with literally people from all backgrounds. . . So much variance in political ideology, culture, etc. But just like all Americans aren't fat, ignorant, and ethnocentric, I'm sure people from other countries don't stereotype all AMericans as such. . .

Oh, well... You know, hating Americans has become a type of socially acceptable racism in the Western world.

What can one do about it?

you seriously dispute the fact theres a small yet strong group that is willing to resort to violence to meet their objectives? Have you heard of the FLQ.

I really don't think I need to apologize for being patriotic and for hating Separatists. This is my Canada, which does include Quebec. Obviously I understand this dates back even to the Seven Years War, but if the Separatists would for once embrace the multiculturalism which makes Canada probably the best place on Earth to live, and instead of trying to become a sovereign nation would instead stand and be proud to be Canadian, all this could be avoided.

You really think it is appropriate and right to force a whole Peoples to completely switch their country of residence without any say in the matter? Again, let's find some Cree and hear their side of this debate.
